...why then, do Protestants think the NT is more authoritative than the institution that created it? How does that make any sense at all?

...then how are we any different from any other cult or man-made religion, such as Mormonism, the Jehovah Witnesses, Hinduism, Islam, etc.?

This is a follow-up to this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoLiCe4.g1MBhv73eRLEmJnty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071104145427AAYG7bf

...which had some AWESOME answers!

(I would especially LOVE to hear Catholic's respond to homechrch and Romans32 answers in that question!)
= = = = = = =

But for THIS question, let's stick to the main question above, and this one:

And if Catholicism teaches things within their "tradition" and by Her Popes that contradicts the Bible, then what makes the Catholic Church any different than any other cult or man-made religion?

....for their own political insterests?
Europe, in the Middle Ages, used religion as an excuse for the conquest of territory in the Middle East. The Crusaders caused much killing and destruction in the name of God.

The Bible clearly states in Gen 30 that monocoloured goats that copulate in front of striped rods will give birth to striped baby goats.

if a person commits a sin that is publicly known and that person repents of it, and someone who knew about it brings it up later, should that person acknowledge it any longer?

I strongly believe that God exists.

The Bible says: "Acquaint thyself now with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee."
----Job 22:21

Some may wonder, Why doesn't God send proof? Well, the time is coming when God will prove to everyone that the Universe is not without a Creator, masterful and intricate designer. But for the present the believer must maintain his faith in the Creator.

The reality of God's existence can be sustained by exceedingly strong arguments, but God never FORCES the will. No argument will ever convince someone who doesn't want to submit to God. As the poet said:

"A man convinced against his will Is of the same opinion still."

The person who's willing to believe has already taken the first step toward a satisfying faith.

The Bible says , "No one has seen God at any time." But the fact that God is invisible is not the whole story. God provides signs of his presence and activity. "FAITH."

You're all heard the tired, "why would God let people become atheist, or gay, etc." But here's new (at least to me) reasoning.

Well, at least for atheists and agnostics. Atheists and agnostics become the way they do (often times) because religion (or certain religious people) repulses them. Other times, it is because they are thinking for themselves, and looking for the truth.

So God seriously punishes people who do not agree with the actions of the church or church goers, as well as those who only try to use reason and logic to solve problems/mysteries?

Atheists and agnostics often do not accept their beliefs with any malicious intent. Most times, it is the opposite. And God punishes them? (That's part of the reason I don't believe he exists - because he's backwards on a lot of important ideas)

The whole modesty part of your religion really confuses me. I mean wouldn't it have been easier for the Qua'ran to talk about self control rather than covering up the problem?

I know other religious people and non-religion people get anxiety and depression around this time of year but do Jehovah's Witnesses - who don't celebrate any holiday get depressed this time of year, too? My husand's uncle is a Long standing JW and he committed suicide today. If you say yes - then please explain why. I used to get very depressed at this time but that's because I've always lived very far away from my family and I was lonely - and reminded of it with all the pictures of perfect families and everyone having plans and me being forced to face 'the day' alone. Why would JW person feel depressed BECAUSE of the holidays if they have Never celebrated those days?

me and my husband are christians. we have an 8 yr old son that is constantly having nightmares. he dont even sleep in his room no more due to this. i always thought maybe it was his imagination running wild with him UNTIL the other night. the other night he came in our room screaming and crying. i comforted him and sent him back to the couch. he got half way down the hall and started screaming again and running back to me. i got up and looked to see what was going , and i saw a huge tall black figure standing there in front of my son. i immediately called my mom to come and help me pray, and we did. why do you think this intity is tormenting my child???

PLEASE do not be sarcastic, this is real?
