Pastor Billy says: a couple of corrections here Toady
1. the Catholic Church compiled both the NT and OT for Christians as the Christian authority to do so, Protestants have chosen to adopt one version of the Jewish OT canon developed after Christianity had separated from Judaism. This OT canon was decided upon by the Jewish council of Jamnia circa 110ad which was hostile to the Christians why respect their decisions?
2. in accepting their NT canon Protestants whether known to them or not have already accepted the authoritative instructions of the Roman Catholic Church. As a practicing Catholic I always carry a smile in knowing this fact of Christian history when debating a Protestant believer.
3. the Catholic Church not only compiled the Christian bible it also wrote the entire New Testament books, all the apostles and their disciples were Catholic practicing Christians.
4. as bibles did not fall from heaven at Pentecost fully bound in leather you are right to ask why the authority of Christ's Church whatever you call it is not given it's rightful place of authority in defining and explaining what is written on it's pages.
5. Protestants by nature are continually protesting this heresy probably is the greatest deception the world has ever seen. All the bible verses they enjoy applying to Catholicism as the false religion are more correctly applied to themselves while they maintain a rebellion with first Christianity.
We must continue to pray for them so they who are searching to know God better will finally search out the fullness of revealed truth and return to the One visible Church of God.

in accordance with evangelical concept approaches, the recent testomony (and the finished Bible) gets its authority from God (not from councils). The books of the recent testomony have been in extensive stream interior the Christian church homes formerly the Catholic councils pronounced them canon. each and all of the Catholic Church did substitute into to declare what substitute into already self understood. The scriptures are self-authenticated. the priority with this concept is that it is not consistent with history. The councils did settle the question of which books could be interior the recent testomony. There are different books that could have made it interior the Bible. We additionally should remember that Martin Luther believed the councils have been incorrect and that James could be faraway from the Bible. And what could the evangelical do as quickly as we come across new fabric like the Gospel of Thomas? in short evangelicals could admit that they could place self assurance in the Catholic Church councils to settle the question of the canon of scripture.

Yes the Catholic Church compiled the canon of the Bible, yes it decided what books were inspired and left many out because they did not speak salvation truth.
That is the interesting thing when people who have no idea what the Catholic Church is truly about criticize it saying it is not Bible based. The Church that compiled the books, did the exegesis on the theological aspects of it, the Church that had the original theologians who studied the context and insured that tradition was held up to the utmost, and finally the Church that still uses Scripture as its center in revealed truth, is not Bible based.
It is truly sad that people in this day age, make accusations of the Church without knowing the richness of the Church, filled with the Holy Spirit, created by Christ himself and blessed by the Father.
God bless you and pray for those who undoubtedly will answer this question with the same lack of knowledge they possess.

Yes, the original catholic-orthodox Church, the only organization authorized by Jesus Christ, wrote the New Testament scriptures during the first century and authorized them over the course of several centuries.
Where Muslims imagine that God literally dictated the words of the Quran, Christians recognize that human beings were inspired by God in composing the text of the Bible. There is no biblical claim of inerrancy, but only of inspiration, which means the texts contain truths revealed by God.
Because the Church wrote and authorized the New Testament, the Church is authoritative in interpretation. Thus, if we don't understand an ambiguous passage in the New Testament, we need to consult the interpretive community with the authority to "bind and loose." The Church received this authority because the Apostles, the founding members of the Church, studied with Jesus, asked him questions, and passed on the answers in the Sacred Tradition that is essential for understanding.
Cheers,
Bruce

I have no clue where you came up with that at as it is not true, the old King James Version that we use today was put together by they best scholars of their time in the days of King James who may have not even been a believer but he wanted an english translation. The he chose to do the job took 10 years in completing it because the greek language into english was not an easy translation. My best adivce to you is to get the Bible out and read it with an open mind and pray that if God is real to show you. If you will do that and be willing to accept the supernatural when you see then God will show you. He did me. However if you arenot going to believe no matter what then of course you are just wasting your time. God is looking for people who will serve him and who want to have the very best that this life can offer. You can only find that in Jesus Christ. When you get saved and born again the Holy Spirit comes and lives in your heart and you have a joy and a peace about you that nobody can really understand. Your first step of course is to be Saved and become a believer in Jesus. He is always ready to forgive and will cleanse you from all sin if you will let him, His death on the Cross has paid your sin debt, Here is a sinners prayer, if you would like too you canbe saved today right now, just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Yes the Catholic church put the all the individual books of the Bible into one book. I believe that God guided them when they did this. However this does not prohibit them from doing wrong or moving away from the truth. David was called God's friend. He was also a murderer and a adulterer. So while he was led by God he still could do wrong. Do you understand?
By the way I am not calling Catholics corrupt or murderers or anything like that. However I do believe for a time the Catholic church moved away from God's will. I also think they are trying their best to put that beind them.

I believe the basic fundamentalist view is that the bible (OT and NT) was written by men inspired by God, that God directed the coming together of the true parts of his word, and that any individual or group that took part in the formation of the "Holy Bible" as we know it today was guided by God. Therefore, the version we have now is the correct version and it is directly God's word. Btw many fundamentalist protestants are in ignorance about the actual historical formation of the bible. (Matter of fact, some are proving it here on this post.)

The Bible as we know it, more or less, was compiled about 500 years ago from several sources.
Yes, it was compiled by the Catholic Church. It has been added to, edited and changed on a regular basis. Still going through that process.
If it was indeed created by God, then God has had many changes of mind over the years.

When fundamentalist say bible was man inspired by God. It is not clear they leave out one shepherd, one flock, one body (church not many churches) and one sprite of God. Another thing they leave out is the holy sacraments, authority to teach, and the holy Tradition that holy bible talks about that is passed by the true Church of Christ which is Catholic Church. Since Jesus left his Church (one body and New Jerusalem) they saw it was important establish the cannon scriptures which is NT to conserve Apostles and Jesus teachings for the Church. The bible talks about this tradition to keep, but not explains in grate detailed which only church knows and was practice by the Church and not written because it was common in communities and was no need to. This show and other part of the Bible that NT was meant for Church because when it was mad was not intended for other groups. If is was for other groups it would show and say many bodies, many flock, many Holy spirites, many Jesus Christ, many New Jerusalem, and many interpretations and would say free of interpretation with out authority. In doing for free of interpretation that gives way of many kind of Jesus because in doing so would create deferent aspect of Jesus or ideas of him.

You've begun with a false premise. The Catholic church did not create the New Testament, God did. The Scripture says Holy Men of Old... God Breathed.... wrote.
The Council of Nicea took some 10 years to determine which writings were truly of God and which did not come up to the value of the Canonization.
A good study of the enemies at the time of Christ and the things they did to confound and confuse the Gospel would be very interesting for you, I think. TC
