You're all heard the tired, "why would God let people become atheist, or gay, etc." But here's new (at least to me) reasoning.

Well, at least for atheists and agnostics. Atheists and agnostics become the way they do (often times) because religion (or certain religious people) repulses them. Other times, it is because they are thinking for themselves, and looking for the truth.

So God seriously punishes people who do not agree with the actions of the church or church goers, as well as those who only try to use reason and logic to solve problems/mysteries?

Atheists and agnostics often do not accept their beliefs with any malicious intent. Most times, it is the opposite. And God punishes them? (That's part of the reason I don't believe he exists - because he's backwards on a lot of important ideas)

I lived in Thailand as a teacher for two years and shared Christian beliefs with Buddhist students. When I got there and began discussing Christian ideas with them, I was met with a lot of hostility, which surprised me.

The students had a bad impression of Christianity because teachers in the past had been very dogmatic and insistent that if they didn't accept Jesus as their personal Savior, they would be damned forever.

Many of the students rejected Jesus and the Christian message outright, not because the teachings themselves were inherently bad, but rather because they had been presented so badly.

In fact, they were not rejecting Jesus as much as they were rejecting the teachers who had grossly misrepresented him.

Many of the students were and remain atheist.

Punishment is an attitude or way of looking at it. Consequences of our actions could be considered punishment in that sense. It happens in the physical world all the time. Planes and rockets will fall to the ground if the engineers do not do it correct. In the spiritual world, God judges all of us according to an honest, sincere and informed conscience. Doing it the right way helps one to achieve a correct conscience and might help us to avoid some ot the consequences or punishments that can arise otherwise.

Twisted AND sadistic. Think about this... God creates man and the entire universe in seven days, then does his best to cover his tracks so there is only hard evidence to the contrary. Or... God decides that the only little simplest thing anyone has to do to go to heaven is to believe that a man, who was a man but also God himself, never did one thing wrong in his life or even thought about it, then came back alive so that all others can go to heaven... that is, of course, if you happen to be in the time and place where someone is there to tell you this wonderful story which may be completely contrary to any religious beliefs or historical or scientific knowledge you have from previous experience. And all you have to do is throw away all you know and have learned and have faith in the above story. (Of course God has to be very vague in his word to really stir up trouble between religious denominations on what else might be required to get to heaven.)

Sorry. I'm usually not so blunt, but some guy who keeps yelling on these sights about saving me is really beginning to bring back trauma from my church days.

I haven't heard of god punishing any atheists or agnostics or punishing people who do not agree with the actions of "The Church". What church are we talking about? Catholic? Protestant? Armenian? The church of the almighty dollar?

Perhaps you are confusing the actions of psychotic reactionary christians with "god".

God does not care.

God is not a he or a her, or a likeness of us. God is everything. Nor can God be imagined by mortal man.

Life is a blessing that we are empowered with. We're not a rock, we are life.

God has one rule, so easy to follow. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

It really is that simple.

All religions have that same rule.

Unfortunately, almost all of us make exceptions to that.

If we really followed that universal rule, war would be extremely rare, taking care of humanity would be the first order of business, not somewhere down the corporate ladder, and no one would ever go hungry, least of all our children.

Peace

Jim

He punishes those who dont follow His ways for He is the creator, despite what any of us feel about it or Him,it doesnt matter what we 'think' or 'feel', what matters is the truth.. whether we agree with it or not.The 'church goers' are not in the truth themselves,He doesnt agree with their actions and ways of living either.Who are u to tell the creator that He is backwards? If u dont know or choose not to know,or follow in the way of life He has for His people, then i can see why u feel that way..Shalom

I shall answer you with scripture....

Daniel 4:35 "All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, 'What have You done?' (NASB ©1995)

and

Ps 115:3-8 " Our God is in heaven doing whatever he wants to do.
Their gods are metal and wood,
handmade in a basement shop:
Carved mouths that can't talk,
painted eyes that can't see,
Tin ears that can't hear,
molded noses that can't smell,
Hands that can't grasp, feet that can't walk or run, throats that never utter a sound.
Those who make them have become just like them, have become just like the gods they trust"

God gives us free will. He doesnt want to force us to do anything. and he doenst "seriously punish" people who don't follow a church. look at the people around you. i'm pretty sure J.K rowling isnt Christian, and yet she wrote so many good books. God is dissapointed that there arent more people who beleive in Him. but He is not backwards on any idea. if there is anything you say He's backwards on, please email me your idea:
