Please describe to me why you do or don't think that these three religions have done more harm to the modern human race than anything else devised by man.

Especially if they cite that Snopes article?

Please? There haven't been enough questions about monkeys or bananas lately and I've seen Christians asking questions against the Golden Compass at least three times since returning from my lunch break!

Is it true that it means "Gates of Hell?"

2007-10-30 06:18:03 · 11 answers · asked by Fedup Veteran 6

Jesus tells Nicodemus that "no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again". Nicodemus was confused and asked "how can a man be born when he is old? Certainly, he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born". Jesus replied: "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised. You must be born again. The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the spirit."

Nicodemus was still in doubt and Jesus said "No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven - the Son of Man" (some manuscripts say "Man, who is in heaven")

In your honest opinion (joking aside please) I'm curious as to what everyones vision of hell looks like?
What the people look like? The place looks like? What is the vision you have always had of hell as a child up until now?

And why do people nowadays think it is 'okay' and 'natural' to be homosexual or bisexual? How can it be okay if you're a (strong) christian?

I was wondering if you could please help me with something. My baby gir has a little bit of a cold now, and she has been really sick in the past with stomach flu, strep, pink eye, and so forth all the things that kids "normally" get. This really bums me out, It is the worst things in the world having my baby sick but on top of that this is a spiritual thing for me as well. When I share my being upset about it with others they make the statements such as "it is normal for children to be sick, it is just part of growing up". I don't accept that, we are children of God and 2x daily I cover my daughter in the blood, I pray over her, pray in the spirit, place a hedge of protection around her, and complete spiritual shield of amour. As A RN I know that people get sick because of living in sin, unconfessed sin, consequesces, just wear and tear on our bodies other times to bring Glory to God. Can you please shed some light or scripture on this for me? thank you so much and God bless you !

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith . . . not by works.

James 2:14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? . . . Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.

I know most of you will say yes without thinking about it.

I would rather you thought about than answered, but please do both.

I ask this because most of the Christians here talk about their close personal relationship with God, but I want to know if you hear his voice talking to you. I don't mean feelings of joy in your heart, or signs you've interpreted as a reply, but actually prayed and gotten him to talk back to you, and then had a conversation.

Which, by the way, they are.

I just heard of this now. But why wasn't there outrage at CS Lewis for a "stealth campaign"?

I, by the way, have located a portal to Narnia. It's in my clothes dryer -- it's where all the missing socks go. They go to Narnia.

for someone who wants us to worship him god sure does like screwing with you if you do. can anyone explain what the big offense was with the whole tower of babel? people were living and working together peacefully, trying to build a tower which would reach heaven, no doubt because they worshipped god and wanted to be closer to him. so what does god do? he separates them, and gives them all different languages so that nobody can understand each other. was there some moral to this story?

I have seen some christians say on here that science backs up the theory of creationism because they say they bing bang couldn't have happen't without a force behind it, They say that god was this force. If nothing can be made from nothing, and nothing can happen on it's own, Who made god and what did they make him out of.

What about all the genuine Christians that live in each community? What about all the charity being given in every immaginable form around the globe every day in the name of Christ?

Many, I think I can safely say most, Christians believe that live begins at conception, there is a soul created at that time.

So, please put the emphasis on HUMAN soul. Jesus was a living person...the Spirit of God dwelled in Him...but was a HUMAN soul created?

Thanks for your polite answers. I do have my own ideas but I like to read what others say.

I was reading scripture this morning as I usually do and these verses jumped out at me as a perfect description of the atheists of today. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 He knew about them 2000+ years ago! Isn't that amazing?
Also in 2nd Timothy 4:6-8 I found real blessed assurance. Isn't that very uplifting scripture?

God bless <><

What is the criteria for what is considered inspired and what is considered uninspired? Who determines how scripture is organized? By that I mean who determines how the books are put together and in what specific order they are placed?

What if there was somebody who kept saying negative things about the Bible, but had never actually read it for him/herself? Instead, this person bases his/her opinion on what he/she has been told and has read on the internet.

They wouldn't have much basis for that opinion, would they? Maybe if they sat down and read it they would still feel negatively, but you don't know until they actually read what they're criticizing.

Now I ask you, have you read the Golden Compass? Are you boycotting the movie based on something you were told, or read online? If you're so concerned about it, why not read it for yourself and then pass judgment?

(I know this isn't all Christians. I'm a Christian and I love those books. I've just seen so many questions lately from Christians saying we should reject the books/movie, yet when I ask they say they haven't read the books for themselves.)

Why do you think the tunic Jesus wore, when he was crucified was so popular with the crowd? They cast lots to see who would get it after He had died.
John 19:23-24
23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

24"Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it."
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said,
"They divided my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing."[a] So this is what the soldiers did.

-Do you know the meaning of this?

I asked this question the other day and got a few answers, but I'm still unsure...so Please help!

If I'm disfellowshiped, and another person is disfellowshiped ( they got df before I did) and we were involved with each other, but in my meeting I did not mention that person by name, should I go back to the brothers/elders and mention it? Or should I leave it be, they were df for the same act(s).What would you do?
