Jesus is the Resurrection & the Life. So? That is heaven. I follow the bible because Jesus is the Word of God. And if He never raised from the dead, then our religion would be in vain. There wouldn't be any resurrecion & I wouldn't have a promise of heaven.

Yes. At the most basic level, the teachings of the Bible are the same as those of most other world religions (be nice to each other, don't be selfish, and don't kill anyone). I think this overlap points to the fact that these are just good, sound ideas, with or without the promise of Heaven. So yes, I would still follow these teachings even if I didn't think there was a Heaven.

Let me answer your question this way. Suppose the entire world follow the 10 commandments. Suppose we all follow the teachings of Jesus. And suppose we all follow the Golden Rule "Do unto others we would like others to do unto you".
Now...wouldnt the world be a much safer & nicer place to live? No more murders, no more wars, no more robberies...we can go anywhere without being mugged...
I dont see heaven as the reward for following the teachings of the bible. I see the teachings of the bible as a way to cope with our problems in this world & as a guide on how to interact with the people that are living today so that everyone will enjoy life.
So to answer your question, I'd say 'Yes".
If heaven wasnt in the equation, I'd still not kill & rob & be all aggressive & deceitful. I'd like to think that I would still have morals.

You know, I think the Bible has some very good ideas. Love your neighbor. Be kind. Don't steal. Don't cheat on spouses. So, although I'm not a huge believer, I do think I would continue to follow those practices and many others if heaven was taken out of the equation.

God and His son Jesus are in heaven with the angels. We are not told that we go to heaven. The promise for people who trust in God and His promises is that Jesus will return to set up his kingdom on earth. You will probably remember Bible stories about the lion lying down with the lamb, corn on the top of a mountain, the blind seeing, the deaf hearing etc.
We are told that 'heaven is God's dwelling place' now but that eventually He will dwell with mankind.
But, of course, if people don't want what is offered by God how can He help them?
The gospel - the good news - offers salvation if we try to obey God. The best offer we could ever have.

Yes, because christianity (well, any religion really) teaches you to respect others, to love, to be patient. I want to teach my children everything about the bible, not to get into heaven, but because it teaches them not to be arrogent or selfish, but to share and to have some sort of character aspiration.
I think the bible is just ridiculously important in life, imagine if politics actually followed the bibles teachings, wouldn't the world be so much fairer?

How about no heaven and no hell, just eternal existence where intelligent beings have their free agency to think, to chose, and to believe a they wish. After death there may be a separation of these beings where they group themselves with others that think, chose and believe as they do. This to create an existence for them of harmony. "In my father's house are many mansions" "As the stars differ in the heavens so I go and prepare a place for you", etc. No hell with eternal suffering for this is an offense to an all loving and all merciful God to think that He would allow such a place to exist. Given all the time in eternity intelligent beings will eventually learn those principles that allow for a harmonious fraternity among other eternal beings. We are God's children (offspring) and the example given to all living things on this earth shows that offspring can eventually grow-up to become like their Parents. God has all the time there is to work with any of us. He can also give us all that He has and still have everything. All the evil, death, destruction, and tragic happenings that take place on this earth really mean nothing in the eternal time frame of this earth life. God can make up for any unfairness in a person's life.

If you are a Christian, I don't think you need to think about it....we know that God gave us a way to live that is far superior to the one we lived before...if you follow his way,,you will be healthier, happier and have inner peace....what does the world have to offer me in place of that? Nothing.. I have never looked at Heaven as a prize for being good....even if Heaven turned out to be,,,,just more like what we have right now,,,but without the pain and suffering,,....I'm good with that.....

As an atheist, I can't really answer - but that is an amazingly good question! I have been wondering about this for a while... is religion just a sense of security for death?
I would imagine that a lot of Christians (not many Christian answers yet!) would be lying if they said that they would - even without knowing it... Ahh, too much to ponder for a Tuesday afternoon.
Anyway, really brilliant question, I'll watch this one!

Live rich? That is what is there. They do not all live rich nor most of them. Should we resort to shanty shacks because other countries use them? NO Should we play poor and fit in with them to hide wealth? Sometimes its safer? Sell everything you have is a charge to those that God provides for. Say 10 million people used your name and he provided for 98% of those people and not you very well? Would you trust him in that passege? Say all your friends became rich and you did not. Would you be friends? You present the scruipture as though this is all we should do in that way. Frankly that is for people that God through Christ has provided for already in a trusting way. Should I risk all to gain poverty? It is for some believers . In our climate we need shelter, heat and habitation. Some countries people survive because outside is cooler and they travel light and can survive easier outdoors. I agree with not storing up treasures as moth and rust corrupt. I could easily help others if I had wealth beeen given, accessable to me. Money in the bnank is good for a time but p[eople need healp, food, clothes and things. When we have monies we should opt to assist the poor rather than fcae a the rich mans judgement for only giving crumbs to the poor. People are reluctant to give unless people look like street residents. Most are afraid of that. We should be wise stewards of our monies when we can!
