I heard that Mohammed didn't Physically write the Qua'ran down himself. So who do you credit with writing it down? Was it a specific Person?

Followers of Christ say that salvation comes by grace through faith in God. However, faith is a principle based on action, and many churches believe that works are evidences of commitment to your faith. James even states that "faith without works is dead".
Salvation clearly comes by the grace of God through our faith, but what role does our work to build God's kingdom on earth play in that?

You, obviously do or you would not be an atheist. After all heaven and everlasting life in eternal bliss with God is a comforting thought. To think that one day we will be with the creator of the Universe and he will bestow his wonders and his love upon us is awesome.
But you an atheist have choosen the truth over this mythology. Why? Some people might respond well who would not want to know the truth. The answer is many, many, many, people prefer to look at the world through rose colored glasses. Look at all of the people that beleive in God with blind fate. It`s kind of like the Matrix you have choosen the blue pill willingly to know the truth, rather than the red which offers comfort and peace of mind. You have choosen to look at and come to terms with the harsh reality of life and death. This is something that belivers don`t realize its not that we don`t believe in God it`s that we have embraced the truth above anything else.

Why do you place such a high value on truth?

What if Y!A made it their policy for all atheists to register with them as atheists. Then all the R&S users would have the option to block all of you as a group if they want to. In the interest of maximizing the efficiency of this free and open forum, would you be willing to go along with this?

As much I as would like to believe that I am not in charge of "this journey of Life" and God is, I still have bouts of wanting situations to go as I perceive they should. (of course, I have all the best interests at mind! haha)
When I WORRY about people/situations, I find that nothing I could have WORRIED ABOUT would have changed the outcome anyway. But then, the next situation comes up, I'm right back on the WORRY SHIP. How do you truly ease your mind with daily worries??

Many evolutionists refuse to expose themselves to books or literature that present scientific evidence for Creation and refuse to read any, but then claim authoritatively there isn't any.

Isn't this a circular argument? As long as I won't read it, I can continue to claim it isn't there.

Spelling, punctuation and grammar?

No, no, only kidding.

Seriously, what if when you die, your future is not determined by piety or anything external, but you actually are forced to judge YOURSELF.

At the moment of truth, you have to be utterly frank & honest and ask (and answer) one simple question.

Did you do your absolute best in life, or did you slack off?

I'll leave the "reward" part up to you, but how many will honestly be able to say they did their best? That they made a quality life out of the life they had?

See, it's the answer to this question that matters. It's not about what's written in a book, or whose faith is stronger, or whose god is real, or who has the facts - and it never will be.

It's only about the effort you put forth, and whether it's honest or not. Once you understand this, you will know EXACTLY how to live a great life, all by yourself.

After being agnostic (couldn't say He didn't exist, but didn't really know either, I have ALWAYS been very scientific, I love cosmology, evolution, astronomy, paleoanthropology -- YES! We DID evolve from a common ape-like ancestor) for the last 15 years, I was transformed to God-rabid believer after His grace and Spirit descended upon me in my Baptism of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour and Master, where I was caught up to God and held in His bosom of love and eternity in intimate spirit-union with God. Within 15 seconds, my life was transformed and I feel as if my whole 28 years of life were culminated in that one short span of time. It's like I lived my entire life for that short moment, and that short moment changed the rest of the remainder of my life. I now walk with God, will never forsake Him, and know He will never forsake me.

Anyone else had an earth-shattering experience that made you believe when you didn't know or didn't believe before?

I don't believe that the earth is only 6,000 years old.
I believe in evolution.
But, I believe in God and Jesus.
I just don't believe a lot of what the bible says. I know it has been changed a lot.
Is this okay?

Religion seems to be little more than a coping mechanism for those with sufficient anxiety about their own mortality. It serves as a need fulfillment mechanism in this respect, to reduce anxiety.

What's wrong with death being the end?

Like I said in the heading this question is solely about the belief in a soul, I'm not attacking your God.

Anyway, why do you believe in a soul? What is it about humans that lends evidence to us having a soul?
Also, why do you believe animals don't have souls? Is it because animals are not sentient like humans? Well, there is evidence that dolphins, elephants and gorillas have a conciousness and may be sentient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_cognition
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetacean_intelligence
Why do they not have a soul? Why are they not accountable to God?
