in other words, the children never hear about any god from any source. Will they develop a religion on their own? Will they somehow know about jesus christ? Is anyone out there willing to try it?

Thanks to all who have answered so far. Be aware that you can only get the coveted BEST ANSWER if you actually appear to have read and understood the question, realize it’s mostly hypothetical, and then answer the actual question. Some of you don’t appear to have done so. The last part, “the experiment,” might only entail not pushing religion on your kids, and acknowledging outside mention of religion as just something other some families do. Maybe up to age 8 to 10, and then explaining that they have a choice in what they want to believe.

Atheists of course. Religion is a social influence.

I find it hard to believe that they would never hear about God. Maybe not from their parents then from other sources. USA has Christianity influences embedded into everyday life. I think that unless a person is set out to teach a different religion living in our country they would be at least at some level a christian.
I was not taught to be a christian by my parents. I came to that on my own.
So yes to answer your question I think that they would know because it is a part of our society. I am not knocking any other religions by any means. I have decided to teach my kids what I know but will allow or even encourage them to make the choice of faith for themselves.

Of course, not. If ever I would have kids in the future, I will tell them the things I know about God.
Talking about kids who never knew anything about God, I am sure they would have developed a belief from different people they meet. If they meet people who don't believe in God, they might also adopt the same belief that these people believe in. they might follow the practices that these people do which leads them to the path which is contrasting Gods' teachings.
I believe that it is also the adults responsibility to tell the children about God's words, His commandments and help them know there purpose of existence.

Children form their own ideas about morality based on what is around them. Depending on their parents attitude toward devout religious, the children may end up strongly atheist or maybe just apathetic towards the idea of a higher power in general. In my experience, people without religion have an excess of confidence in their personal abilities. This is because American culture wants us to believe that if we try hard enough, we will be able to accomplish anything -- regardless of any outside forces.

In the world we live in today, sadly people use the Lord in vain for many reasons that they see fit...so I think in this world, it is hard to imagine that our kids wont learn or hear about some religion somewhere along the line, whether it be at school, or with friends, kids will develope their own belief on what God means to them...but I think in the world that we do live in...we need to raise our kids to believe in something, anything because a child without beliefs, is like a life with no purpose...we all need to believe in that one super power, no matter what your religion is...if not...that is when troubles start to form...

my secretary grew up in an atheist home. God was forbidden to be ever mentioned. She became a born again Christian after she was married. Her faith is amazing. She said her parents were SO intense. Her childhood was very difficult. But I think that a child who grows up Christian and looses their faith is worse off. Like that one story about the Esau and Issac. Esau threw away his birthright. He did not appreciate it. So, as parents, no matter your child's upbring, I believe that with certain people, they are simply drawn toward God. Can't be helped. God knows the hearts of men. That is all.

All children are born atheist-agnostic. Most may stay that, but it's impossible to really answer this as we haven't put it to the test. I imagine they would develop their own theistic religion based off of their imaginary friends from childhood. If there are no Christians or any Bible, no, they will not hear of 'Jesus Christ'.

Any religion they want. I grew up in a Christian family, and my parents never baptized me, nor forced religion on me, and I didn't become an atheist. I found my own path to follow, Germanic Heathenry. I personally believe that children should be kept away from religion until they can fully comprehend it, then should be allowed to explore on their own. Everyone needs to find their own path.

Whatever religion/beliefs you have within you are made up of your own choices. I grew up in a Christian family, and made my own choices as to what I believe.. I DO NOT label myself as a TYPE of religion now. And I guess it's because my parents never really tried to force anything on me either. Though they were not "Typical Christians".... They chose not to go to church after they were basically condemned by the patrons after my Dad had shown them the word that he had "recieved from God" that he did not believe in everlasting hellfire. The church couldn't stand for that. But it goes way more in depth... though my parents no longer go to "church" as most Christians know it... they still have "church".. within the family and friends that understand them. My Dad has written many books that give glory to God and invite others to understand him through scripture.

Though I have not followed in the path of my parents, I do still carry on the belief that God is within you.

How can we judge ANYONE? NONE of us know what happens when we die. We only have to deal with what's within ourselves. If you believe there is a God out there.. and even if you don't.. it is within you. Not within the walls of a building, nor from the words of your parents, or by the ink in a book.

Think of all the WARS man has created on this earth... RELIGION is one of them. Why be a part of it?

Just love "your" God, and trust that "he" is there for you. There is something bigger than us out there.. don't we all know that?

Yes, man created religion. Too bad Man has to blow it up into another fight.

What is this? A warped form of Christian science? If they don't hear it from their parents, they are going to eventually hear it from friends or acquaintances. Then they will be asking their parents anyway -- and the parent's are going to have to come up with some explanation. I don't think you are going to find anyone willing to try it. It would fail unless you lock your kids up in a room for the first 18 years of their life. Not something I think anyone here wants to do.
