Muhammed was not a learned man. He did not know how to read and write. The Quran was recited to him through the Archangel Gabriel over many years.
Scientists have also discovered many scientific facts about the Universe in the Quran that has not been changed for the last 1400years (many discoveries were only much recent). You might want to refer to the link below for more scientific discoveries.
The Quran does not suffer from changes (by human hands) as it is established in a numerical code system which is impossible to be writtem by a human mind (also in the website). If you read on with an open mind you will find interesting things in the Quran (most non-muslims will claim the Quran was man-made, copied, etc, but do read and decide on your own).
A good biography of Muhammed by Karen Armstrong(former Catholic nun) presents a neutral perspective of the life of Muhammed (minus the biaseness of non-muslims who claim he is a terrorist, etc). It would be good to always research with an open mind beneath all the western biaseness of Islamic History. You will be surprised.

The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was illiterate. He instead would recite the verses as God sent them to him, and he and his followers would memorize them. At the same time, he also had scribes who copied them. At one point he had at least 20 scribes to copy the portions down. Every year during Ramadan he would recite the entire book in order, and many people would try to memorize it.
After his death, his followers passed on the book through parchments and written on slates from camelbone. During the time of Omar (RA) a number of the memorizers (one who memorized the entire book is called a hafiz) were killed, and it was decided to compile it in the proper order on paper into one volume. The community observed this compilation, and unanimously agreed as to the authenticity of the dictation. It was completed by the time Caliph Uthman (RA) was in power, and he had it copied and distributed. These "Uthmani qurans" (also called Usmani Qurans) still exist today in Turkey and Tashkent, and are thousands of years old, and word for word identical to what is in the Quran today.
Although various sects split off from mainstream Islam, they all agree in the authenticity of the Quran.

it any one of his LITTERATE followers...prophet Muhammed would dictate the QURAN TO THEM.....and they would write it down in bits and pieces.....and was later compiled under Prophet Muahmmed's rules.....how do we know its God's words.....because of verses that describe things that no man could ever know during that time...espcially Prophet Muahmmed....he was illerate...so no books and he didn't have much knowledge other than what was taught to him by his uncles etc.....the quran describes the BIG bang.......its talks about the atom......it talks about how dark it is in the deep sea......etc......so we credit the Quran to God and God alone...Allah didn't pysically write the book.....but just like some affluent aithours...he used others to write down His wrods (God's words)
