Please help me understand why some non-Catholics would rather rely on news reports about Church documents than dare gaze upon the documents themselves. Will the power of God coming through the documents result in a 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' type effect in non-Catholics?

Two examples of obstinate refusal:

Without being rude, or judging you.

I just told you that I love Jesus because he preached love and peace, and because he saved my life.

What would you say to me?

According to Mormonism, Nephi while in Israel was commanded to obtain the Brass Plates from a guy named Laban, these Brass Plates were like another bible. Was it common for the ancient Israelites to record scripture on brass? Or is that just a Mormon thing?

Jesus is the Jewish Messiah but he was not the "Prophet like unto Moses" who was to come from the "brethren of the Jews".

The Holy Ghost is not someone who has not come… according to bible he has always been around.

Therefore who is the Comforter or “That Prophet” who John said he was not when asked (JOHN 1:19-21) ?

Moses replied : "And the Lord said onto me, they have well spoken that which they have spoken, I will raise them up a Prophet from among ‘their brethren’, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him." (Deuteronomy 18:17-18)

The Bible refers to the Ismaelites (Arabs) as the Brethren of the Israelites :

(Gen 16:12) ....and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

(Gen 25:18) And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that [is] before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: [and] he died in the presence of all his brethren.

In this verse God specifically says from “their brethren” meaning that this a significant change to the usual lineage of the Prophets. The Final Prophet would com from the “brethren” of the Israelites which means the Ishmaelites in Arabia. This is why many Jewish tribes moved to Arabia to await the Final Prophet. The Quran were verses literally put in the mouth of the Prophet in the new tongue (Arabic) which was then memorized and repeatedly recited by all the companions.

-------------
Jesus said someone will be sent after him -- he will leave so the Final Prophet or “Comforter” can come with a final law that would JUDGE and establish legal commands of God to follow.

"But now I go my way to Him that sent me and none of you asketh me, 'Wither goest thou?' But because I have said these things unto you sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, for if I go not away, the [Last Prophet/Comforter] will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and approve righteousness and judgement" ----- John 16:5-8

To approve righteousness and Judgement means a new LAW would be sent through the Last Prophet.

Obviously Jesus is not talking about the “Holy Spirit” being the comforter/Prophet because the Holy Spirit has already come as once as a dove and many times before that.

The Holy Spirit has already come many times --- (Luke 1:15,Luke 1:41,Luke 1:67,Luke 2:25-26) and it is a divine “favor” or understanding….. not an actual person or Prophet.

And I will pray to the Lord, and he shall give you another [Prophet/Comforter/Spirit of Truth], that [his example] may abide with you for ever. (John 14:16-17)

As a mercy unto mankind God has promised to send down and protect a final complete message(Holy book) and code of life (human example) before sealing the Prophethood.
The Sunnah (example of the Prophet) is kept alive by every Muslim copying the life of the Prophet Mohammed.
---------------------
"But the Comforter[Prophet/Comforter/Spirit of Truth], whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your “remembrance”, whatsoever I have said unto you."—John 14:26.

The true message of Jesus, Moses and the Last Prophet is kept alive forever through the memorization and daily recitation of the Quran.

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. How be it when he, the Spirit of truth , is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak- ----- John 16:12-14 -

This shows that the disciples were not given a full code of life nor a full message of absolute truth. Rather they were given glad tidings that a final Prophet would come who would teach them all the truth which would not only confirm what was said before but would tell of much more to come.

Holy Quran 5:48 To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the truth of whatever there still remains of earlier revelations, determining what is true therein, and guarding it in safety:
-------------------------
This Final Prophet will come as Isaiah predicted ………. From the land of Kedar (Arabia) and from the branch of Jesse (Ishmael)

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out his roots. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord.”--- Isaiah 11:1-2

The Quran calls the Angel of Revelation (Angel Gabriel) the Ruhool Qudoos “Holy Spirit” who is sent down to “strengthen” the Prophets.

According to Encyclopedia Biblica, we read: “Jesse is contracted from Ishmael”. (Cheyene , Encyclopedia Biblica under “names”)
--------------------
Isaiah tells of the Prophecies of a “Servant of God” who will come from the land of Kedar with a divine Law and he will be victorious over his enemies in battles.

He will bring a new law and message in a new tongue(language) and the villages of Kedar will sing the praises from the mountain tops.....

“Sing unto the Lord a new song , and his praise from the end of the earth…” (V.10)

“another tongue” (Isaiah 28:11)

Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the tops of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands. --- (Isaiah 42:11).

Ishmael dwelt in the wilderness of “Paran”(Gen.21:21) He beget twelve sons one of whom was named “Kedar”. (Gen.25:13)
------------------
******** The reason Muslims use the bible to prove several points is because it is mentioned in the Quran that Allah sent down glad tidings of the Last Prophet to come in the Torah and Injeel (bible).

HOLY QURAN - 007.157 "Those who follow the messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures),- in the Torah and the Injeel (Gospel);- for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him,- it is they who will prosper."

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

When they cannot decide among themselves who is correct.
The Pope has said only this week that non catholic churches are not truly christian.
Some don't view catholics as christians.
There are so many different denominations of christianity.
They don't argue over which religion is the only true religion, they argue over which denomination is true.

Jesus didn't build a building (although he was a carpenter).
He didn't write books, or publish sermons for money (though he was probably more sure of his source).
He didn't collect money to forward his religion (as far as we know, it was only used to feed the poor, and his disciples).
He didn't pronounce judgment on any sinners (except the religious hypocrites).
He didn't proclaim allegiance to one country or flag (He called the king a fox).
He didn't follow (or trust) the central authority of the church (he said the buildings would fall, and he refused to answer the high priest's questions).
Need I go on? Surely you could fill in a few of your own. Organized religion has had thousands of years, but we have changed little. Perhaps it is time to give disorganized religion a chance.

I notice a lot of non-Muslims saying that we do nothing about terrorism.. that we sit back and just talk. I for one, along with many sisters have had rallies here in NY against terrorism. But my question is,

WHAT ARE YOU DOING for the thousands of civilians being killed in Iraq? Do you think it's humane to sit back and watch these innocent folk die.. and to see the soldiers of this country die for no absolute cause?

*Ends don't justify the means*

"Meanwhile, 50 strikes on top Iraqi leaders failed to kill any of the intended targets, but instead killed dozens of civilians, the Human Rights Watch report revealed. The U.S. “decapitation” strategy relied on intercepts of senior Iraqi leaders´ satellite phone calls along with corroborating intelligence that proved inadequate. As a result, the U.S. military could only locate targets within a 100-meter radius – clearly inadequate precision in civilian neighborhoods"

An Ice Dam is one of the possible results of a glacier melting.

If you have seen the animated movie "Ice Age 2" you will understand the concept.

As the glacier melts, it forms a pool (and eventually a lake) of melt water held in by the leading edge of the glacier (which forms an ice dam).

Eventually the leading edge melts, and releases the lake in the form of a rapid flood.

Most of the Flood legends are based on the collapse of ice dams.

The legends from the Mediterranean have a different cause. During the ice age the sea level fell so that the straits of Gibralter and other bottle necks were above sea level.

When the glaciers melted, the sea level rose and flooded over these bottle necks, flooding the lowland areas behind the bottlenecks.

Do they not teach this in high school science classes where you live?

Why do some people think that the English Speaking world has all of a sudden (1611) come up with the only true scripture version of the Christian Bible? Isn't this arrogance? There were Catholic editions before King James and there are many other Catholic editions today. What is it about English and Protestant arrogance that can possibly assume that a King in England and the Hampton Court Conference would create the only true bible? What about Spanish bibles? Isn't there an inherent prejudice in thinking that the protestant bible is the only true one? Isn't it misguided? There have been over 10,000 correction to the King James Bible. The puritans burned it in Massachusetts saying it was from the devil. Whats up with the arrogance? Have you read any other versions of the bible, in any other language other than English?
