Dear Brother,
All should be aware that there are at least two kinds of sin categories that are a part of the carnal mind, A.K.A.(the flesh). There is sin (mistakes) and the sinful lifestyle (life full of sin.) We are forgiven for our sins and we are cleansed from all unrighteousness by confessing our sins and accepting salvation & regeneration of the Holy Spirit. We have to renew our minds, which means we have to grow in Christ, as well as grow in Love with Christ. We sin along the way, but we should not sin the same way. The reason, because it can become a stronghold/addiction. The key word there is "should not." Ironically, one of my favorite quotes is, "Mistakes may help you to grow but don't grow the same mistakes."
--Author is known--
We all know God will not accept sinners in Heaven. We have to "Sin no more!" as Jesus stated to the adultress woman. He was not saying we are not going to sin again. Jesus was simply stating we have to learn not to fall into temptation, nor to live a life full of sin. How do we stop sinning? We do this by faith in Christ Jesus. There are three things that must grow in a Believer's life, His/Her Faith, Love & Holiness. This is the regeneration of the Spirit; Faith in Christ, Agape Love, Holiness-Renewing the mind (meaning; learning God's Truth as well as to Love God's Truth and walk in it,) producing all of the fruit of the Spirit. We cannot accomplish this with out Salvation in Christ, & the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Thank God we have his grace & mercy as we attempt to live the sinless life. But even more so thank God that we can clothe ourselves with Christ. He alone is our propitiation for our sins.
If you do fall into temptation, take heed to ask for forgiveness immediately and repent. Change your mind/ways.
John 5:14
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold,
thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (This is stating a sinful lifestyle/backslidden state)
John 8:11
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I
condemn thee: go, and sin no more. (This is stating a sinful lifestyle/backslidden state)
Romans 7:17
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. (This is stating; Sin Nature/Carnal mind-The flesh that causes us to fall into temptation and sin)
Romans 7:20
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that
dwelleth in me. (This is stating; Sin Nature/Carnal mind-The flesh that causes us to fall into temptation and sin)
Hebrews 10:18
Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (This is stating a sinful lifestyle/backslidden state)
Hebrews 10:26
For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the
truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (This is stating a sinful lifestyle/backslidden state)
There is only one sin that will not be forgiven. Anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit/utterly rejects the Holy Spirit until death.
Mark 3:28, 29
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
We can stop sinning when we are ready. We have to be ready for when the Lord appears.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
In Christ,

That is a misunderstanding of the scripture. If you are not saved, you will be like a good night sleep, you will be forgotten. The wrong idea of hellfire comes from the Pharisees belief as told by Jesus in a parable to the Pharisees about the rich man and Lazarus. It was a leavened and poisonous doctrine from Jesus enemies that most Christians adopted. They think that the parable was a true drama of life after death. But we always pray the catholic Nicean creed that they all believed in the resurrection of the just and unjust. That event is more than 1000 years from now if we believed that the day of tribulations will come this 2012 plus another 10 years of tribulations and cleansing before the millennium reign. Even after the resurrection of the unjust, those who fall short of the works of the law will die a second death after their lifetime of about 70 years. That would be the next eternal sleep, separation from Yahweh. So, Do you choose pharisees doctrine or Jesus preaching. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. They were the Tate's that needs weeding from the truth of the scriptures.

For the one that says, "you can live completely without sin" is the one that deceives himself. As a Christian we are to live a life that pleases God, but we are still in the flesh.
here is the first part of chapter 2 that says that we still can sin, even if we are His children-
"
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world."
As a Christian- I have been clothed with the righteousness of Christ, I am a new creature- however sometimes the old nature can creep back- and when it does, I pray I am sensitive to the Spirit and I confess and repent quickly.

Sins don't get inherited. The human is not born sinful. If a person stays away from blasphemy and sins, they would be Muslims as they would no longer liken God to the creations. That is truly knowing God - knowing the Attributes of God.

We all fall short of the glory of God, absolutely and we all better know that. Noone is good enough for God, but He loves us anyway. But, He does tell us that He commands we live holy lives, sinless lives in obedience. If we obey what we know now to obey, GOd will bless us and show us even more. and when we do sin, He will forgive us, if we are genuinley trying . But, when we go and do deliberate willful sin and expect grace to cover us, we deceive ourselves. Example, when a man deliberately decides to go cheat on his wife, that is deliberate sin. IT could eventually be forgiven, if that man truly hit his knees and confessed it and didnt do it again, He would feel extreme sorrow in His heart, and GOd does know the heart. But when one keeps going back to the same sin over and over again, they arent trying. They say OH I am working on it. NO, just stop it. WHen you do , God will bless you and take that evil desire away.
When we are truly Gods, we will be growing and learning more every day, getting closer to God and being more like Jesus. IF its only lip service, God will say I knew you not, you had a false form of godliness and you are lost.
Choice is still ours. GOd knows the heart.......

Just by claiming no sin, the person would then not fit the category of being Christian.

We are freed from the power of sin. Big difference.
A person can make an error in understanding and know God, yes.

Yes that is true, and so also is the fact that "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God." 1John 3:9

NO religious person really KNOWS God! If you ask them for Knowledge of God you will be ignored or given Knowledge of their BELIEFS about God!
It appears to me there is a disconnect somewhere in ANY religion that causes believers to be unable to differentiate between Knowledge and Belief. The same disconnect appears if you discuss Facts and Faith.

I know sin when I find it. The hard part is finding it. I have been looking for sin in all the wrong places, searching in too many faces. Your question is sinfully provocative.

The answer from one who lives free from sin, is an affirmitive yes. Read the second chaper. He deals with the saints
ONLY,
because he addresses the hearers as children.
'MY LITTLE CHILDREN'
In the first chapter, he is speaking to saints
AND
sinners. He does not call the hears of this first chapter his 'MY LITTLE CHILDREN'.
In this first chapter he is testifying. Saints do not need the type of testamony that John is giving here in this first chapter.
