Genesis has Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son to God. "Take your son, your only son – yes, Isaac, whom you love so much – and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you." (Genesis 22:1-18) Abraham takes his own son up on a mountain and builds an altar upon which to burn him. He even lies to his son and has him help build the altar. Then Abraham ties his son to the altar and puts a knife to his throat. He then hears God tell him this was just a test of his faith.

How come you have no problem in believing this story of the bible, and it is actually ok for you that God asked Abraham to do such a thing in order to prove his faith,
then when someone gets caught doing something THAT EVIL in today's society ,saying that God told him to sacrifice his son,
(check the story of that guy that put his son in the microwave saying that God told him to do that) you are ( if you are a NORMAL PERSON) THE FIRST one to say that the person in question is CRAZY ,EVIL and should be put in jail? THEN WHY DOES THE STORY OF ABRAHAM MAKE ANY SENSE TO YOU ??????????

King james was replacing the word jehovah and why would you go by some one's VERISON and not the origanal

king james VERSION is the king's VERSION and not a translation of the origanal scrolls

that's like saying windows VERSION 98 AND vista VERSION is the same program

If the religion is too difficult for you that you cannot handle challenges to your practice, perhaps it is time to convert.

i mean, if i kill someone i am condemned so why should i refrain myself and not kill 25 people more if i am already condemned???
if i repent and then i have my salvation restored why would religion refrain myself from killing in the first place, all i got to do is repent afterwards.
So religion doesnt prevent first time sin nor helps to refrain people from repeating the sin.

Both groups have the same key beliefs as ancient Waldensians, Albigenses, Cathars, Paulicians...to name a few, and have direct links with the Albigenses in Holland in the 16th & 17th centuries.

i recently asked a question about evolution to members of religions bassed on the BIBLE...i was quite supprised when i discovered that most responses did not deny evolution... heres that catch...if evolution is real, then what about adam and eve? correct me if im wrong, but were'nt they perfect beings that required no more genitic mutations?...even if they werent the evidence is building up that we evolved from other species, which would mean that god did not create these two beings/humans...what im attempting to get at here is the failure of the OT, if we did evolve from other species than it is evident that god did not create humans as the superior race or even that god did not create humans at all. THIS IS ONLY A THEORY AND IT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN AS REALITY....YET... comments?

If the energy of the big bang were different by one part in 10^120, the matter in the universe would either be dust or in singularity (Hawking). What do you think?

A cosmic coincidence? A miscalculation? A multiverse? Natural intelligent designer?

I understand that no one knows, but I'm just wondering how many possible answers there may be other than "God did it"...

It is the word of god, but doesn't subjecting it to human penmanship leave room for error?

How do we know it is the same today as it was in the 1st century?

Do you ever really know, or is it all about faith for you?

Please don't be offended by the question. I'm asking in curiosity. I want to understand Christians and Cristianity before I formulate many opinions about them....

Ok so say when you die you lived a great life and you basically were a good person and you go to heaven say your dad or mom or another loved one or close friend dies and they were bad people and you know they were going to hell ( I know theres no way of telling 100%, but still sometimes you just know these things just bc you knew what kinda person that person was...) anyways and even tho they were a bad person you still love them, so when you die if you go to heaven and they go to hell, vice versa will you ever get to see them again?

anyone with eyes must admit that some of the most carefully crafted, stupendous art work over the centuries is found primarily in houses of worship or in tombs as decorations for the 'gods.' so if you are touring europe, for example, will you bypass a tour of a cathedral, for example, based on its religious significance to others?

do you appreciate art work and architecture of a religious nature less than you appreciate art work, etc. that has nothing to do with religion?

it would be kind of you to give me two opposing examples of art, one "religious," and one not so, for me to understand your point of view. thank you.

it may be a sin or whatever but i dont see your strong opposition to death penalty and your law say "thou shalt not kill"...so if you just ignore some sins why dont ignore others and let people live their life???
By the way death penalty is just the opposite not letting someone live their life and you just accept it.
I always thought that killing was a greater sin than being gay or playing gay or whatever you may say

mormons on here are always saying that their beliefs & scriptures & doctrines are being misinterpreted. i just find it hard to believe that us non-mormons always get it wrong when we read it and understand it for what it is. there always seems to be some hidden meaning somewhere.

Someone (I won't mention who, apparently showcasing someone else's ignorance is a no-no) said the following about "Lucy"
(No I'm not making this up)

"Lucy" has been proven a farce along time ago. You didn't know that? Sad.

Can you believe it? Not only is this an outright lie (It's called Pious Fraud in religious circles and is apparently A-Ok with the creationist crowd) but intellectual cowardice of the highest level.
To that person, I would suggest you take a grade 9 biology course and find out about the Science of Evolution.
Failing that, take a look at this site;
http://www.becominghuman.org/
It's excellent and done so that people with even a rudimentary scientific education can understand it.
Please, get educated. There are enough ignorant morons in the world as it is.

I was raised with the most loving god ever known, it was ALL 100% positive for me so I have not turned away because I did not like what I heard. basically, science has just convinced me that it came from man. after all, its been around for 35,000 years BEFORE CHRIST!!! I believe jesus's intent was right, but maybe there is no "way" other than how to live a peaceful life on earth, isnt that what its really about? isnt that what we really want to know, how to be happy right here right now... regardless what happens after we die. Does what happens after we die really change the way we should act today?

peace and love to everyone

I am not asking whether or not you support these things, but I am wondering if you think they will happen.

Will the Roman Catholic Church...

remove the condition of celibacy for priests

allow priests to marry

ordain women

allow same sex marriage

be more accepting of divorced persons

Do you see any of these things happening in the next few decades?

Here's how I see it

Same sex marriage: you'll never live to see it unless you live to be 300 years old

Women as priests. Maybe one day. There is no major doctrinal barriers there, and if they did it hundreds of thousands of women would want to be priests. They would have to build new schools and seminaries to support the massive influx.

Celibacy/married priesthood. That could still be far away. Rather, you'll have both men and women as priests but they'll have to be celibate

divorce. eventually they will lighten up on this one

What do you think?

i mean they can see that as a sacrifice or a kind of martyrdom...they love us and we mock them...that is what their bible says they must be doing...so christians just accept our mockery and behave humble because i can feel your dislike and even hate and that is not pleasing your god...you have to suffer like jesus did so stop being aggressive with us atheists since we are the ones who will make you gain your heaven, so accept your martyrdom and lower your head...be humble my friends, god is watching!!!
