I'm a musician and teacher. Sometimes I ask my kids to format a song in Finale so we can perform. I am capable of making sure they do it right.
Babies start out in life checking out universal laws like gravity. Ultimately we sort out what basic stuff from the 1st century is still true today. New applications, old truth. Yeah, I believe in... gravity.

The Gospel (but especially the Ancient Testament) is a script composed by the 80% of symbolism and metaphoricals messages, the rest want to make the Hebrew history a kind of legend, and emphas the miracle of Jesus (you know the "Divina Commedia" of Dante Alighieri, right? Now everyone know it for her spiritual cosmology, but how many understood every single tercet that explain no more than metaphors, fact e concepts of his living. Now if in the XXI century are still exist people that know the "Divina Commedia" just because the author choose a mystical and Christian scenography, what do you expect that a book that presents hitself as the "Pure True", has been misunterpretaded and considered literally, for all this years, not a random, even today there are Creazionists, Bible Students, Fundamentalsts, ecc.) Now if priest and bishop (if they understood then the Bible, is another story) teached in the church that what says the bible is like this, they surely do it faster, that make a philosophy discussion in just one hour, at the ignorant population, that even with the super-explanation, it won't understood (because of the ignorance, for the right).Remember that the alfabetizzation of the populatio started only in the beginning of the 900'. Now, comparison the Bible with the Divine Commedy, make an analysis of both, forget about the form of how's write and you're able to see that their reasoning have no crack.
(i hope you understood, i'm not english)

I don't believe the bible is true. I think it is a good story, with good teachings about how people should behave, but to sit there and take it literally, word for word is stupidity.
It is a 2000 year old book that has been translated so many times, and to meet the needs of the translator at that time.
Hebrew can be translated in many different ways, hence the number of different versions of the bible, each religion having pretty much it's own. How convenient. They don't like something, so they translate it differently.
Not to mention there are SO MANY contradictions in the bible, yet the christians always have an excuse for them.
Really, it's just a silly old book, a good read to be sure, but that's as far as it goes.
***NOTE***
Whoever said it's true because it says it's true... you sir, are a moron. (At least if you meant that seriously.)
Ok, tomorrow I am going to write a 20 page novelette, and in it will be a ton of nonsense. I will talk about spirits raising back from the dead, food being split for hundreds of people from a single loaf, people walking on water...etc. And then I will add my own touches to it. In the book, I will write that it is true, and I will email it to you. The next day I seriously hope you write back and tell me that you believe everything I wrote because it says that it's all true.
If you don't, not only are you a moron, but also a hipocrate.

Let's just ignore, for now, the fact that it's the Bible and treat it like any other ancient document.
Scholars from around the world, throughout many, many years, have been comparing different manuscripts of the Bible, copied at different time periods. Without fail, the manuscripts are incredibly close to each other. (In fact, the Bible is considered (by secular scholars) to be more accurately preserved than nearly all ancient philosophers.) When they are in doubt as to which one is correct, they go with the older manuscript. (because it has been copied fewer times.)
When you add in the fact that it is God's Living Words, you run into this: God was "keeping an eye on" those who were copying manuscripts, making sure they didn't make major mistakes.

God is the author of Sacred Scripture because it has been written under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Church accepts as sacred and canonical all of the books of the Old and New Testament, whole and entire, with all their parts.
God chose and inspired certain men who used their own powers in writing. The Spirit showed them what he wanted written and no more. They were still true authors.
Because all that the human author wrote was affirmed by the Spirit, these books teach faithfully and without error what God wanted to reveal for our salvation.
Nevertheless, the Christian faith is not a "religion of the book" but of the living Word of God (Jesus).

Part of trusting God for my salvation is trusting Him to keep His promises. I have that promise that He will protect His word.. I can trust that of abandon my faith that He is God.. But God didn't leave me hanging there without evidence to give support to my faith.. In the 22nd Psalm I find this:
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Is this proof, NO, but it is evidence that the Bible is what it claims to be.. In case you don't understand this passage Think of a crucifixion and what is done in one and what happens to the person that is crucified. Oh I almost forgot this was written by king David over 900 years before Christ. At least 200 years before evidence of the first crucifixion were preformed by the Persians.. Jim

The Bible is true because it is written by God (word *of* God not *about* God). How do we know there is a God? Because it is in the Bible. This is the best example of circular reasoning there is.
