What is your view on breastfeeding? Does Religion play into your views as to the why's or why nots?

"No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities"

"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make half the world fools and half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the world" - Thomas Jefferson
I'd like to see some actual proof saying our Founding Father was a Christian and not Deist/Freemason?

A lot of times on R&S, we talk about the differences in our beliefs. Let's talk about the similiarities between the different religions or denominations. Most people fear what they don't know. Let's all get behind that. So, what Faith are you and what do you think is at least one thing you have in common with every other Faith, even Atheists and Agnostics, (who certainly have the right to believe the way they wish)?. Thanks, and have a super day!

Many people said that catholics pray to Marry and saints, thus worshiping them. I, as a catholic, say we ask them to pray for us. Do not (those of you that believe in God) you ask people to pray for you in times of need?

How is that not the same thing?

I notice many people use examples of Hitler, Zeus and Santa. I myself tend to bring Johnny Depp into many philosphical discussions.

Who's your favorite?

If God is all powerful, God could have created a universe with no evil.

The typical Christian reply to this is "God created us with free will, he can't force us to be good". But this doesn't make sense. Why didn't God create a universe with free will AND eternal goodness? It's a stupid system to say "You can't have free will and eternal goodness", because your so-called creator made that system, for which there could be a better one.

It might seem like a paradox to us - but surely not to an allegedly omnipotent being.

Therefore, God created a universe of suffering, when he could have created a universe with no suffering. A universe with no suffering, with free will, and perfect happiness. All contradictions reconciled by his omnipotence.

Therefore, God is evil.

How sure are you that after death is eternal nothing?

I have noticed that many people who identify themselves as "strong catholics" also can take stances that are different than the official stance of the church. (Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite things about Catholics.)

What are some of the main issues where parishoners differ from the Church's official stance? Do you have any differences personally? And finally, would it be petty if I posted this question just because I've blocked an especially mean anti-catholic person and I wanted to frustrate him?

Christianity is nothing but borrowed ideas from Judaism. The read what they call the Old testament and yet whenever some error or inconsistency is pointed therein, they say, "We now have a new covenant".
What do they have to show for it? A book which contains fables by men who wrote them a long time after the guy whom they were about passed away.
There are a LOT of similarities between Judaism and Islam; Christianity's book however sort of stands out as a clear form of "writing for inconvenience" after borrowing from the Jewish scriptures.
In certain cases, what the Jewish book prohibited, they decided to allow and ended up, in the process, attaching divinity to a guy who never claimed it.
Sad!

Were there any times on your path that you were doubtful and felt like your goal/vision was impossible for you to reach? How many times did you have to reorganize and adjust your plans when they seem to be failing? Did you ever doubt your faith? Did you ever feel like God wasn't listening to your prayers? Did you ever feel like you weren't reaping what you were sowing and your hard work wasn't getting you anywhere?

Catholics do not worship Mary, the Pope, or saints. Putting a statue of Mary in your front yard is the same as putting a gnome in your front yard. The Pope is like the president, it gives structure. Saints are just that, really awsome people in history. Even if someone prays to them, is it not just like talking to a friend? We dont worship them, God is God is God- no one else.

I am just wondering because as an athiest I sometimes say "Jesus" when I am stressed or something goes wrong. Is this likely to offend Christians who happen to be around me?

2007-06-17 02:21:59 · 21 answers · asked by Anonymous

Even if my son, or daughter was really bad or did the worst thing, i wouldn't let them suffer, i wouldn't put them to torture, i would do anything in my power to stop them from suffering and if god is really "all-powerful" than he could stop someone going to hell. "Rejecting" jesus, is it a sin worth eternal hell? No way. I would never let my son go to hell no matter what they did to me, but apparently god would, you see, already i am more loving than god. Also, why does our fatye after death last forever, if someone did something a little wrong in god's eyes, don't they just deserve a little time in hell, instead of eternity, that's not fair, Noone deserves eternity in hell, and if god loves us he wouldn't let it happen.

It seems that alot of folk have quite a bit of resentment against us Catholics. In some cases, people don't even try and hide it, they just say they hate us. Why?? I mean i'm not a devout Catholic but i do respect my religion and all other religions. Also, alot of Christians don't seem to realize that Catholics are Christians too. What do you guys think?

2007-06-17 02:07:02 · 32 answers · asked by Anonymous

I have seen a lot of hate towards Catholics, Why? Seriously. If there was one thing that you could honestly say that just riles you about Catholicism , say what it is. Even if it's more than one thing. I'm not asking you this in sarcasm, I'm asking this because I do not understand . When I see Protestants & Catholics arguing, over things it really makes me sad. How do you think this makes Christianity look as a whole when its own believers are fighting, we are all Christians shouldn't we love each other as family, does not the Bible teach us to love every one?

l really just want constructive criticism. I know we have our faults and that there is a lot of misconceptions/ misunderstanding between Protestants & Catholics out there. Personally, I would like to learn why all the fuss so that I can help to fix this. I honestly believe that if we set aside our differences we would ALL see that we are ALL God's Children.
Please explain in a few words if you don't mind.
Thank you & God bless
