Yes it definitly does, you should use other words to express that, at least if you swear, its not words that have meanings which are very special to people, funny isnt it how you say Jesus or God, when you dont beleive in them, automatically you use them instead of anything else, It is blamsphey to use their names, and it is hurtful it is like you mock our beleifs, it is fine not to beleive, but not fine to use Jesus and God's name in vain

It is taking the Lords name in vain. Just because people who claim to be 'Christians' still say it doesn't mean its wrong.
My perspective on it is even if it weren't taking the Lords name in vain, Jesus was a great man (even if people say He is not God He was still a great man) who did more for humanity and society than anyone else on the planet. If Jesus had not lived then the EU would likely be Muslim, so would America and Australia and many other countries. Jesus living is why you are free to be an Atheist rather than be forced to worship a god you don't believe in. (I say this due to the likelihood of Muslim countries moving into the areas where Christianity flourished and following history, for the most part, to where we are today.)
We owe Jesus our respect even if we do not accept Him as God.

I had my mouth washed out with soap for saying "Jesus Christ" when I was a little kid [age 3]. I had heard a neighbor use it, and I really didn't know what it meant.
According to my mother I was "taking the Lord's name in vain." However, at the time, I did not know that I was doing anything wrong.
Yes, it might offend Christians around you.
It won't offend me because I am a Secular Humanist.

Its not really offensive due to the fact that Christians have compassion. That is what The Love of the lord Jesus is about.
When some one uses these expressions it is because they are really pleading for Divine help. Christians then would use the opportunity to show how to obtain help from the One they are pleading.

Hi Skippy,
It doesn't offend me in the common sense of the word. It doesn't make me angry, defensive or spiteful.
When someone uses the name of my God in an angry or spiteful way I'm hurt. It pains me to see my God put down just as it used to pain me when my aunt used to gossip about my mother in front of me. Here is someone I care about demeaning someone I care about. It really hurts me.
It doesn't matter if I know the person who's demeaning God or not, it still hurts. I care for everyone. Also, because I have such deep respect for God, I am concerned for the person who says these things. I believe that God will handle this type of behavior, in His own way, at His own time. This doesn't mean that I expect "all Hell to break loose" because of some cursing. Although God has patience, great patience with all of us, He will handle someone who makes a habit of using his name in vain.
I hope this is meaningful to you.
Yours in Christ Jesus, Grace

It is using God's name in vain which is breaking a commandment. But I know a lot of Christians that do it without thinking or realizing it too. I do'nt think I would be really worried about it but you can stop and set a good example!

i detect it unusual that Christians 'rigidity at a gnat' to justify Jesus with "Jewish scripture". Why are they employing altered texts of alternative peoples scripture to a technique or the different coach their ideals? Seeing Jesus in each verse they prefer and customarily taking the texts out of context and now and lower back basically area of a sentence (and in case you study extra, it ought to disprove their component). they might desire to first seem on the adjustments made to the 1st Greek textual content cloth made for the Ptolemy's which then additionally take place interior the NT. Then why did the "ebionites" come out with the Stephanus and then yet another greek version interior the 2d century c.e. and differs little or no from the previous variations, aside from maximum all the verses quoted interior the NT? Jews stated the C's replaced the textual content cloth, however the C's stated no and accused the Masoretes of taking all references to Christ out of the bible. till ultimately, the Qumran texts confirmed it develop into no longer the J's who replaced those verses. And we shouldn't forget approximately Jerome who justified his adjustments via asserting the unique Greek copyists have been extra asleep than conscious and why no longer replace the textual content cloth to make it extra suited for Christians. shouldn't Christians be looking Jesus in writings as quickly as they suspect Jesus develop into born? Why are not many talking with regards to the numerous letters, apocylypses, different writings, and gospels via Pilate, the Roman Senate, Mary, Mary M, Thomas, Didymous Thomas-the twin of Jesus, Judas, Naasenes, Nazareans, Marcion, Proteus Peringeus, Simon Magus, Dosithesus, Valentinus, Pseudo-Clementine, Docetists, Diognetius, Meleagar the Cynic from Gadara, Dionysus statute interior the ruins of a theater interior the vast city of Sepporis on the sting of slightly hamlet of "Nazareth".etc. they might desire to attempt to detect Jesus interior the NT. maybe the Jesus of gospels or the different Jesus interior the 7 'real' or the different inauthentic Pauline letters; via the two the Paul of Acts or the single of Galatians. Which gospel Jesus, the single in Matthew or the single in John, or Luke or Mark. And which of the Jesuses in each and each of those gospels or the single in Q? The Cynic, the Stoic, the Pharisee, the Saducee, or the Zealot Jesus or the single from Qumran?

It offends me, but doesn't anger me. It also offends God, who you should respect. Since you are an atheist, have you ever asked yourself why you use the name of someone you don't believe in when you are stressed? Your soul knows God is real and is trying to overpower your ego.

It depends on how serious/conservative/spiritual the person is. For example, someone like a Southern Baptist would likely be taken aghast. Someone like a Unitarian Universalist though, wouldn't likely mind too much, though it would still maybe cause a bit of annoyance.
