being awkward; 'i'm such a klutz' BUT will they ever admit to having a poor sense of humour, or to being a bad driver?

As I understand it, atheism includes the opposition to the existence of a god as well as the nonbelief thereof. Dictionary.com doesn't seem to agree with my dictionary, but regardless, many atheists on here seem to operate from a position of atheism as a "fact." I find this a difficult position to comprehend. True, the theists may not be able to "prove" their religious convictions, but you can hardly prove the lack thereof, and touting atheism as a fact is inherently as fundamentalist as any Christian or Muslim.

So, firstly, are you who call yourselves atheists atheists in the sense of definite belief in the nonexistence of any god (as opposed to simply not believing)? And if so, why this position as opposed to one of nondetermination in the face of insufficient proof or logic?

I know there are bad people out there along with people like hitler. they may deserve to go for a long time, but infante year, come on. even people who torture others give them mercy eventually and kill them. i really cannot comprehend how anyone can justify hell.

i'm 17, not stupid. I've come to believe that the proof presented to me of the existence of a greater being or God, just don't make much sense to me. i respect most religions except for christianity, though i dont disrespect christians. I was raised a Catholic and came to realize that it has too many flaws to have the global dominance that it has.

I was born and grew up Catholic. I believe in the teaching of the church, in terms of the Bible, etc. However, I don't necessarily agree with all of the political stands the church makes. Including gay marriage, abortion (I'd never have one, but I'm still pro-choice) and birth control.

Also, can I be a good Catholic if I don't believe in those political aspects of my religion.

As I'm getting older, I'm seeing the importance and the comfort the prayer and going to church provides. I also want to be married in a Catholic Church and raise my children there. I've made all of my sacraments, but I don't go to church. In the last 3 years, I've been to church for a 1 funeral, 1 baptism and 1 wedding. But, nothing else.

I want to know what I can do to help myself become a member of the church again. I know going to Mass is the best, but what else?

No matter what the religion you find people who think they have the only answer to any question in life. they haven't healed the sick, or gone surfing without a board and all they have to go on is an old book (pick any old book you want) and what others are telling them. I'm not against religion. I'm against people who think that everybody else is wrong. Why can't people see that there is room for many different views?

As an atheist, I have no love for religion. As a former Christian, I have had a keen insight into the Christian mindset. I don't understand at all how Christians can fail to see the harshness of their religion.

In truth, most Christians are eagerly looking forward to the day when Jesus will return and consign every person who didn't agree wholeheartedly with their beliefs to everlasting torment. The Christian looks forward to that most Chrisitian of rewards: revenge.

Christians are morally weak people.
They have no volition to goodness, but have to be bribed with the promise of Heaven, and threatened with the torments of Hell, before they will consider decency.

I am not exaggerating here; as I've said, I know the Christian mindset, having been raised with it and lived it for years. It is the biggest disappointment to me that my girlfriend is currently involved in Christianity. I'm hoping it is a phase that will pass.

Christians, can you not see the hypocrisy?

Hell is the opposite of perfect. I cannot think of one possible justification for hell. No one deserves to suffer enternally, yet a perfect being creates hell. He sent the devil there for trying to take over along with judas. Isnt that out of wrath, a deadly sin. Does that mean god is above the law? If he is than he isnt perfect because no one should be above the law.

I believe in GOD. I don’t believe in any man made religion. If we as humans can kill anyone in the name of GOD, I can not be religious. Then the Religions that say they don’t kill in the name of GOD but then condemn anyone for not believing their way is just as bad.
So my question: Where does that put me?
Anyone else feel like this?
Sorry two questions.

The founders of Israel were non-believers. Presumeably their concept of Zionism lacked a religous basis. Today it is universally considered a reflection of scriptural accounts of ancient hebrews, and as an attempt to re-establish an ancient state. In today's terms, what is the religious basis - for jews, not for fundamentalists - of Zionism?

There is a beautiful chapel/church in my neighborhood that I would love to be married in. However, I just found out that it is a Latter Day Saints church (mormon). I know their religious beliefs are very strict and I am not sure if they would allow anyone outside of their faith to use their church for a wedding of another religion. I am currently a member of a non-denominational Christian church.
