You could put forward the LOTR as a recounting of religious events, I suppose.
But, where are the principles to live life by?
Not to mention that when the kid got older and interacted with other kids, and isn't a complete moron, he would be able to see that the LOTR is a novel.

No not really. If the world itself does not introduce the Book Lord of the rings as the bible he will learn that what you are giving to him is actually a fiction written by a great writer.

I once watched an episode of Doctor Who where the world had been destroyed and the only surviving book was Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies. As a result, that book became their Bible. It's an interesting idea. Try it.

How come people believe in the bible then? Or did you mean to call them all morons in which case, carry on!

Absolutely. If you sat down with your family and ate worms for dinner your small child would follow suit. Children are impressionable and easy to mold.

Maybe the child would become Roman Catholic, that is if your child was into finding out all about it. Good ol' JRR was a Roman Catholic.

Luke 17:1-2
He said to His disciples, “Offenses will certainly come, but woe to the one they come through! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

Probably. You can brainwash a child into believing anything.
