In the time of Exodus, the gap in education standards between wealthy, powerful people and the average dude in the street would have been far greater than today.

With no mass communication, laws had to be kept simple.

Then, as now, maintaining order in society would have been paramount to political leaders.

When the Hebrews embarked on their migration, it would have been difficult for one political force to hold a grip on power.

Presenting laws as coming from god would give more strength to them in the minds of the faithful.

The religious leaders would have been only to happy to co-operate on these issues due to mutual benefits.

So let's have a look at the commandments one by one

"I am the Lord your God, Thou shalt have no other gods before me"

This establishes centralised authority. Zero tolerance of other faiths means less risk of deviation from the rules.

Isn't Law & Order is easier to maintain when you prevent free thinking?

Is this what #1 is about?

I ask because I've been a witness in a trial and there was none of that. It was just, "Raise your right hand. Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"

No "So help you God" no hand on the Bible.

Does this vary by state or something?

The Old Testament is racist (a harsh comment I know). It is completely exclusive to the Jewish people and it descriminates against EVERYONE else. I am not saying its a bad book. The Torah is written and meant for the Jewish faith. But evangalist constantly quote the Old Testament and make claims about Israel that are completely contraditory to Jesus' teachings and todays standards.
Jesus preached inclusiveness (everyone together), the Old Testatment says only the Jews are chosen and are going to heaven, everyone else isn't (that would include Christians).
So why have it? The early church fathers kept it, but should have they? Its blaintly not ours, it theirs. Why not include some Wicca or Hindu?
And yes we all know Jesus was a Jew but he didn't act or preach like a conventional Jew.

Ancient Egypt was old. It was inhabited by gypsies and mummies who all wrote in hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate of the Sarah is such that all the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.

Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but his commandos made it.

Solomon had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. He was an actual hysterical figure as well as being in the bible. It sounds like he was sort of busy too.

The Greeks were a highly sculptured people, and without them we wouldn't have history. The Greeks also had myths. A myth is a yyoung female moth.

Socrates was a famous old Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. He later died from an overdose of wedlock which is apparently poisonous. After his death, his career suffered a dramatic decline.

"So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep." "His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them." Job 14:12, 21.

Do you think maybe there should be a search for new representatives?

OK, looking at the definitions of each, I don't actually fall into the category of being an Atheist, agnost or skeptic, since although I reason that god does not exist, I cannot discount him entirely because, ultimately, I can't prove that he doesn't.

All I can prove is that his teachings are perhaps in need of a tweek, and that there are certain impossibilities within exodus which the bible falls flat on.

Equally, for fortean events (ghosts, paranormal activity etc) which have no scientific explanation, you have to deduce that there is another force at work that we don't know about (be it a scientific force or a spiritual one).

The fact that we don't know which one of the two it is means we can't discount the other.

In the same way, I can't disprove heaven and hell either way, so how do I claim they do or don't exist? I can't.

So, to that end, what am I?

It is customary that a jew cannot become a Rabbi to age 30 and this is probably the reason why he took so long to start his minsitry so that he would be accpeted as one.

It is one of the possible, however , there is one point to note. He is not teaching Jews Religion, he is starting new religion. Does he really need to wait ?

My unacceptance of Histroical Jesus of Bible is nothing to do with my question. I'd assumed that Bible is 100% true. It's just the curious question.

Healthy contribution please.

Not necessarily based on religion but on all your personal ideas and ideals? If you feel strongly about something do you not vote accordingly? How is that different from anyone voting how they feel best if they have a religious affiliation? Are we not aware of this when we vote for a person?

I'm a Christian, i go to church on sundays and try to read my bible. But i have a history of witchcraft. And i'm finding myself drawn to wicca again. I love the sights and the sounds and can't help be very interested in it. But i know that deep inside my soul, that it's wrong. I was a wiccan for about 6 years before i drifted away from it. I got married, and converted to Christianity. I love God, so i don't want any part of it. But i can't help myself. My husband says doing that doing those things is like spiritual pornography or infidelity. What should i do?
