Could it be possible that while Moses was on Mt. Sinai (sp?), if he was alone, he simply made up the Commandments? Maybe he got drunk and just dreamed them? Better yet: Can anyone answer this question without telling me that the Bible said it was so? In fact, just leave the Bible out of it. I want to see what kind of interesting answers I receive.

who feels a deep longing for the Spirit (God, the divine), yet struggles with religion in general and Christianity in particular?

While I've attended Lutheran and Episcopal Churches over the past six years, I find myself, despite many heartfelt prayers, having a hard time believing many parts of The Bible.

I think I'm like many Americans, especiallly those living in religiously diverse areas: we find it impossible to live life without a spiritual outlet, yet find it equally impossible to fully surrender to a religion that claims so many things that are hard to believe.

I've rambled. I mean no disrespect. Just seeking ideas. Peace.

Intelligent design is perfectly valid from a philosophical view point. Its not science, its not what I believe but its a good argument.

Even better is the argument that "god uses evolution."

So why is all this Young Earth Creationist stuff popping up? Not only does it deny science, it denies comon sense. Why are some christians afraid to give up a 100% literal bible. Is the fear that other christians will interpret it differently that strong?

I'm asking this based on the types of comments that a number of people on R&S give about Christians. (Before I go on, I would like to say that I don't believe ALL Atheists are like this!)....

There are a lot of people that say that Christians are stupid and such.. but also others that seem to think that Christians are actually dangerous and things like that too..

I am just curious what it is that makes people think that Christians are so bad just because they have a belief system?

I am sure some will say that when it comes to politics, etc that Christians would want to push their views on the entire nation, etc.. But please remember that the same would be for any group.. If an Atheist is in power, he/she is going to also want to push their beliefs (of no God, etc) on the people as well..

Anyway.. Just curious..

Im interested in learning more about eastern religions and the symbol of "aum". And I know Aum somewhat represents the Hindu relgion and I want to check to see if what I think is part of the religion is correct. ?? Karma, No harm to others, Moksha (release from cycle of birth and rebirth), enlightment to achieve Moksha, and if you live a live of no good deeds and harming others, etc. then you can be reincarnated into a worse life?

I think the reason why Christianity is the most dominant religion in the world has to do with Technology.
Most advanced countries at that time were Christian (England, Spain, France...) They had the technology. They had ships and planes to go around the world and spread Christianity. They had the money to fund those missionaries. They had printers to print Bibles, and teachers to teach how to read the Bible. Had those advanced countries embraced Buddhism instead, Buddhism would have become the major religion in the world today. Don't you agree?

I thought adulterers were people who had extra-marital relations, and not someone who was sexually active without being married. I see this here often, so I wanted to ask directly, what is your definition of adulterer?

People who 'disagree' with homosexuality quote the OT all the time; Sodom & Gomorrah, Leviticus, etc., yet when confronted with the other so-called 'abominations' God mentions - stoning unbaptized infants, eating shellfish on Fridays, wearing two blends of fabric, many Christians claim that the O.T. is not the book they reference? Contradiction County, here.

This is based on Pangels question. I have never heard Pascals wager "preached" in a church and I am only loosely familiar with it.

If you have been taught this in church- what specifically were you taught about the Wager and God.

Atheists- what is your objection to the use of Pascals wager as it relates to God or Christianity.

I am going for "instant education" here. I am too tierd to google and read alot! lol

Telephone was that game where everyone whispered something to someone else and by the time it reached the final person the original text had changed almost completely in the retelling.

If the Bible in its original scripts is rewritten over and over throughout the centuries (as it has been), who's to say what is the real truth anymore? Those who "disagree" with homosexuality refuse to acknowledge that the original scripts read that fornication was actually the abomination. They also take lines from the OT but when confronted with facts from the OT about eating shellfish, killing babies, and wearing two blends of fabric they claim "We read the NT, not the OT."
