Absolutely. Yes. All human beings are born with the right to be free and be treated with compassion.

I think I understand the back story to this question, based on the word choice at the beginning of your question.

By being a sentient being, humans have this idea that there must be a plan involved. If there isn't a plan, then to some people, there isn't a point.

Rights are given freely without recourse. Inalienable rights are given without selection or prejudice.

As a living thing, you have the right to reproduce, to consume, and to make choices.

These rights were not granted to us by a higher power, all things have these rights, but only because we give them the title of rights.

Without politics, we'd consider these rights to be activities and the discussion would be over.

I think everybody should have the same rights. Unfortunately we don't.

I'm Dutch, my girlfriend is Romanian. We're moving to the USA this year. For some weird reason I can just take a plane and fly to the US, my girlfriend needs months and months of selections, talks, interviews, etc, etc simply to get a visa.

And that's just a very small example of how our place of birth affects our rights.

My big dream is a world without borders. And I know that's a naive dream. My other big dream is that everybody would be just as naive as I am.

In point of fact, by virtue of birth I have rights to absolutely nothing.

I was lucky to be born to parents that nurtured me and kept me alive until I could fend for myself. This may sound stupid, but think: That didn't HAVE to be so.

I was lucky to have been born in a country with a constitution that grants the recognition of certain rights. This too, did not have to be so.

Any other rights I possess I have either earned or taken by some force.

We deserve the freedom to live as we see fit, so long as in doing so we harm no other. We deserve to live free without harassment or persecution. We deserve the right to choose our own path and not be condemned or put to death because of it, because all these are contingent on our integrity, which falls into the first statement. It is christendom alone which wishes to control people, oh uninformed and prejudiced one who lashes out in fear (above poster).

Liberty!

Atheists believe in human rights more than any christian. Just ask christians about homosexuality, abortion or premarital sex. They want to control the lives of others.

Why do you think atheists are so different from religious people?
