It's such a cop-out. Such a convenient "I don't-know-the-answer-to-your-question" unthinking statement. Anyone have a good way to get around this with the theists? Everytime I see that as the answer I die a little more inside.

I was sent this WorldNutDaily article about an "anti-God" Starbuck's cup that angered a Christian customer:

http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55564

The cup's side says:

"Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure."

Do you think Starbuck's should have had this quote on the cup? (They have had quotes by Christian authors, too.) Would it offend you to see that? Do you even read the side of the cup? Or, in short, what do you think of this?

MORE INFO: My daughter 13 year old daughter died 1 year ago. My friend loved my daughter like her own daughter. She knew her for 10 years. They were very close. I'm a non-denominational Christian. My friend asked me if she could have my daughter Baptized. In a Mormon ritual called "Baptiziam for the Dead" I was very uncomfortable with this. I told her I would get back to her on this after I did some reserach on this. I found out this is not from the Bible, rather it comes from LDS - Modern Revelation which I assume is the book of Mormon. I'm confused what to do since my friend really means well & feels she is helping get my daughter a good place in heaven. But in my beliefs I know my daughter is already in heaven. I'm worried if I let her do it - it's sacraligious and I'm giving permission before GOD to do this to my daughter's soul. I want my friend to have comfort but not at a PRICE. I need advice from anyone who would be versed on these issues.

You know, because they broke the laws of the land.

Now I know your first reaction would be of course not, thats stupid. Why would God care about a measley speeding ticket..It's not like you robbed a store, murdered anyone, or was caught with drugs...BUT a sin is a SIN...and breaking the laws of the land, no matter how small the offense, is taught to be wrong.

When God flooded the world and left only Noah and his family, this would be what is called a genetic bottleneck. Much of the diversity in the human genome would of been limited only to the group of people on the boat. So, shouldn't we all look relatively similar now or has evolution yielded all the different races and diversity in man in that amount of time?

All these questions of atheists believing this and theists believing that, I don't understand why it matters one way or the other what I believe if you are going to closed-minded to any argument or discussion I might want to have. It works both ways, those who believe in God just can't grasp why some don't and vice versa. If you are not going to be open-minded about someone's various points of belief or disbelief, then why the hell do you even care what somoene else may believe? Does it affect your life one or the other to know that some out there believe in the flying spaghetti monster while others believe in Christ and still other don't believe in anything?

yes i dip, or Chew tobacco, whatever you want to call it, and i used to smoke, thing is, its a bad habit, its not that im trying to kill myself. If i were to die tomorrow and not wake up from my sleep, would God truly send me to hell? I know it sounds cruel to do that, but all Christians know the wages of sin is death, and doing tobacco, which all users know kills you, so is this a Suicide? and if so in Gods eyes, does he understand its not our fault? that when we first tried it, we got hooked?
was tobacco around in Christs days?

To me, being human is an exercise of making tangible a spiritual experience, and cannot be defined in one way. Nor does it have to include a godhead, yet it can for some. I want to hear what you're experiences are. Long or short. It seems that many are confused why we're here. It boggles me, and I've heard the Christian point of view alot over the last few weeks. I'd like to hear from others. How does life have meaning for you?

I am a Christian. I think the cross is one of the ugliest things in the world, one of the ugliest symbols. The cross is the place where guilt, shame, sin etc. is to be for the person being crucified. The cross is for the vilest of the vile! But now if we speak of the resurrection. I think everyone who follows Christ should wear a resurrection chain, someone needs to make one with an open tomb! He has risen!

I'm not ignorant in understanding that Christians wear the cross to remember the death of Christ, but why not make one to remember the resurrection of Christ? The resurrection is mentioned 4 times more than the crucifiction of Jesus is in the Scriptures. It is when he was resurrected that sin was done, it is finished! Now we await our resurrection bodies, that is, for those who follow the Savior.

What was going on in that god-forsaken (no pun intended) little part of the world, the Middle East, that caused three major religions to take root in a period of, what, fifteen hundred years? With people living all over the world by that time why there? Christians and Jews can thank the Roman Empire and its influence throughout the dark ages and then the subsequent Age of Discovery for their survival and spread. Islam can thank the fact that it's believers have remained in an uncivilized time warp for its survival. But why did they all start in that sliver of earth?
