To me, being human is an exercise of making tangible a spiritual experience, and cannot be defined in one way. Nor does it have to include a godhead, yet it can for some. I want to hear what you're experiences are. Long or short. It seems that many are confused why we're here. It boggles me, and I've heard the Christian point of view alot over the last few weeks. I'd like to hear from others. How does life have meaning for you?

Judy L. I beg to differ, Maybe our instincts leds us in keeping the species going. But we have different tools to work with. You know what they are, so I won't humor/antagonize you by listing them. Sure we make up what our life means. Just wanted to see what was up with the crowd, since it does seem to get overlooked here. As for human vanity. I don't live in the world in the way that you described.

I knew someone was going to ask about Olde people. I have no idea! Just popped into my head and I shrugged and went with it. Figured, someone would show up to to ask "what the hell is that?!" GOTCHA! LOL!!

My story it really long and complicated but I will try and give you the readers digest version.

I was raised Mormon. I was very active in that faith for 24 years. I aways had question that could not be answered. When I was 18 I went and lived with my Grams for a year in Ireland. She taught me the old ways, but once I came back home I continue in the Mormon faith. I figured that my questions would just never be answered and I had to live like that. I severed a Mission for the Mormon church. I even asked to stay longer so I was a missionary for 2 years. I then came back home and counting in the Mormon faith never really happy but doing what I was told. I was never happy with Mormonism so I study Religion in general trying to find I what I was looking for. However, I never found it. Then one day after I had been married for a few years I started reading my journals. I came to the year that I sent in Ireland and all the things I learn and how a felt. I remembered feel alive and whole. Then I come on line to met more people and to ask questions. I have been following the old ways now for about a year. I am not Wiccan but there are alot in common with it. I fell the most alive and at peace when I am out in nature.

Good question :)

I've been an atheist pretty much all my life. My mother tried to make me a Catholic, but it never quite stuck :p By 7 or 8, I was questioning the things I was being told about God. The stories were just too outrageous for me to believe. It was around this time I figured out the whole Santa thing too.

My son and I were discussing this last night, after watching Jesus Camp (shiver). I understand the need for humans to assign meaning to life because we are all painfully aware that life brings death. Many things in life can be avoided, but death is not one of them. This I think is the key to religious belief, to that instinct to look at death as a continuation of the journey rather than the end.

But running from death, or making death out to be something more than what it is not the answer for me. Never has been, and never will be.

I find incredible joy in life. 34 /12 years ago, I could have been miscarried, or never even conceived. But by an incredible happenstance, here I am. I am grateful I have the chance to share in the human experience. This little planet, in this vast universe, is an amazing and awe-inspiring place to be. And my purpose in it, in my opinion, is to simply experience it and be happy in it. And, to raise my kids to follow their own paths and get the most out life that they can, and to pass that same joy down to their children. That is enough meaning for me :)

All life has only one reason for being, wether you're a human, a cat, a tree, or a slug. The perpetuation of the species. To think any life form is here for any reason other than that is pure human vanity.

Kallan i'm sorry yet i don't have a e book plenty to declare. we don't use a e book in community American lifestyle. the entire Spirit isn't written in our books and that i think that lots of the books you stumble on on the cabinets are no longer from authentic community individuals in basic terms some uncommon ones are and are not elementary to discover. I do even have concept in Freya and Ares yet back no books that is religious, yet extra historic i think.

I was yoked to the Lutheran brand of doctrine and dogma.

Then I discovered "something" within myself.
It took me 7 YEARS to get a handle on it!

"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God"
takes on a whole new meaning when you discover that God dwells within YOURSELF!

I found great insight in the sequence of spiritual development that is laid out in the 3 books of Solomon:

Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs

Proverbs is a life of dogma and doctrine.
Ecclesiastes is the self inquiry of: "Is that all there is?"
Song of Songs is the joy of finding The Absolute within yourself!
