This is a parallel verse to Ezekiel 47:12. Essentially, it means that the presence of God ensures that all those who are in Heaven are continuously healthy -- i.e. no more disease. In other words, it reiterates the fact that God Himself will provide eternally healthy bodies to the redeemed.

It should be understood in terms of the whole book of Revelation which uses a lot of imagery to convey eternal truth. I believe the tree is figurative, in that in eternity the "tree of life" ensures what follows in the very next verse, "No longer will there be any curse."

So, just as the tree in Eden caused the curse and illness and death, so in eternity it is flipped on its head and curse is reversed. Now, I expect that we will eat in eternity, but what we eat will forever keep us well, and never again will we starve, be sick, or die. Rather than needing something to get over illness, we will already be accessing that which prevents it.

Pure river of water of life, tree of life... is the same thing. It is the Christ.
Behold I come quickly. -Revelation 22:7 and Revelation 22:12... and Revelation 22:20.
Verse 11 is the important one. It is about judgment..
verses 14 and 15 are the tree of life.
verse 17 is the water.
It is there for you. No one expects the end, but it is coming. It is called the Fullness of Time.
I am... the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16.
Take that Satan! Jesus stole your thunder.
The tree of life is in Revelation 2:7. It is a promise to us.
Jesus wasn't lying in John 3:16 BTW.

Revelation is not a literal book. Many people don't even believe heaven is actually talked about in the book! Either way, the tree of life is simply a way of understanding that we will have eternal life, and that we have been restored to the relationship with God that Adam and Eve enjoyed in the garden of Eden.

You do know that the "tree of Life" is Christ?

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Christ will feed us "truth" in the eternity.

Rev 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Jhn 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Because people will still have free will.

Free will to sin and be cast out of God's presence.
