There does not need to be any reconcilition. The purpose of the creation account is not scientific or how to.

And I quote:
[in regards to COSMOGONY]
"Futhermore, Hebrew thinking on the subject was mythopoeic rather than intellectual, issuing more out of imaginative fancy than out of logical inference or disciplined inquiry. Accordingly, all efforts to reconcile biblical cosmogony with modern science rest, in the last analysis, on a fundamental misunderstanding of its purport and intent and on a naive confusion between the two distinct forms of mental activity."

Source: Gaster. T. "Cosmogony" The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible. Abingdon Press: Nashville: 1963. (Page 702)

I am interested in Atheist response to this quote specificially.

FBI asked me in front of Hemet Police yesterday 05/03/07 Officer Galletta be witness. They asked me, Beast, what the USA ought to do in Iraq. I said withdraw from their lands. They asked me how could they stop or reduce the blood bath the withdraw would leave. I said, open negotiations with Al Qaeda, give concessions to them, they know I proclaim to be the official actual leader of the group and yet they do not heed me. I told them, men need to speak honest one to another and cease to use weapons as crude as flesh and dust in warfare rather they use faith and prayer, real weapon like Adam used but they do not heed the wisdom, what am I to do? I really dont desire to wipe the world off the face of creation but feel I am going to have to do just that. Please pray for me, Beast.

In your humble opinion.

seriously.

Many religious traditions practiced by people when promoting thier religion have become part of thier religion, but are not in the bible, many holidays celebrate things that were not "commanded" in that religion's original doccument.

do you think terrorism by serious muslims, and support of terrorism (by moderate muslims) has become a tradition in this fasion.

It would seem to have all the trappings of it.
religiously based, practiced regularly by a group or sect of the religion as a whole or within that religion.
It celebrates that religion and has its traditions and beliefs steeped in religion.

Someone brought up some of Paul's commandments to women in the bible and so I checked it myself.

In 1 Corinthians 11:3-6 Paul says women rank below men and are supposed to keep their heads covered in church and if they refuse to do so, they have to have their heads shaved.

Also in 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Paul forbids women from even speaking in church at all. He says it is a SHAME for a woman to open her mouth in church.

Then in 1 Timothy 2:9 Paul said that women are to dress "with shamefacedness" and cannot braid their hair, wear gold, or pearls, or costly array.

In Chapter 2:11-12 Paul said a woman must NEVER teach or have authority over a man.

He then goes on to blame the downfall of mankind on women and say that the way women are saved is through, "childbearing" in 1 Timothy 2:14-15.

Now this is NT not OT, so you cannot say it does not apply to you. Do any of you actually apply this literally to your life? If not, why not?

You accuse us Christians of having a persecution complex and yet you constantly walk around feeling sorry for yourselves and whining about being persecuted just as much, if not more. Why can't you people ever grow up? Why don't you go form your own little self-righteous, pseudo-intellectual atheist country somewhere?

I'm aware the the word "Pagan" is a large term, but I always have this idea that all Pagans believe in reincarnation. If so, do you, as a Pagan, believe that all living creatures are reincarnations of a previous life? And when I die, for example, is it possible, according to your beliefs, that I will be reincarnated as an animal or even a plant? And if that's true, do all Pagans abstain from eating animals? And one final question: Who is responsible for the process of the reincarnation? Is it a particular God (Or Goddess)?

Thanks in advance :-)
btw: I'm a Deist

Joseph Smith blaspemously boasts that he did more than Jesus to keep a church together:
“God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil–all corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, NOR JESUS ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet . . . ”
(History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408-409). (I added caps for emphasis)

Don't tell me you didn't hear the pride in that statement?

‘Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord’” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31). ...Joe definitely was not boasting in the Lord.

Mathematics is science and proves that evolution is not possible. For example, the 26 letters of the alphabet can be arranged in 4.0329 x 10 to the 26th power, or 403,290,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 combinations. The odds of the proper sequence of letters being laid out at random, are 1 in 2.4796 x 10 to the -27th power or .00000000000000000000000000024796. Taking five minutes for each attempt it would take 3,836,500,000,000,000,000,000 years to try them all.

Yet the scientists would have us believe that living organisms which are more complex than 26 components evolved by chance. Single cell bacteria have about 3 million nucleotides in their DNA. Mathematics show this to be impossible.

Masturbation seems to be about the closest thing to communion with God out there. You're alone with your thoughts, you're at peace, everything is beautiful and then you have that wonderful release that God blesses you with.

And yet wives and gfs seem to get really upset when you commune with God.

So how can we protect this divine rite?

APOSTOLIC CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN.

(Matt 10:5-6)--- Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: "Don't take the road leading to other nations, and don't enter any Samaritan town. Instead, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

(Matthew 15:24) He (Jesus) replied, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

------------
Jesus said someone will be sent after him -- he will leave so the Final Prophet or “Comforter” can come with a final law that would JUDGE and establish legal commands of God to follow.

"But now I go my way to Him that sent me and none of you asketh me, 'Wither goest thou?' But because I have said these things unto you sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, for if I go not away, the [Last Prophet/Comforter] will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and approve righteousness and judgement" ----- John 16:5-8

To approve righteousness and Judgement means a new LAW would be sent through the Last Prophet.

Obviously Jesus is not talking about the “Holy Spirit” being the comforter/Prophet because the Holy Spirit has already come as once as a dove and many times before that.

The Holy Spirit has already come many times --- (Luke 1:15,Luke 1:41,Luke 1:67,Luke 2:25-26) and it is a divine “favor” or understanding….. not an actual person or Prophet.

And I will pray to the Lord, and he shall give you another [Prophet/Comforter/Spirit of Truth], that [his example] may abide with you for ever. (John 14:16-17)

As a mercy unto mankind God has promised to send down and protect a final complete message(Holy book) and code of life (human example) before sealing the Prophethood.
The Sunnah (example of the Prophet) is kept alive by every Muslim copying the life of the Prophet Mohammed.
---------------------
"But the Comforter[Prophet/Comforter/Spirit of Truth], whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your “remembrance”, whatsoever I have said unto you."—John 14:26.

The true message of Jesus, Moses and the Last Prophet is kept alive forever through the memorization and daily recitation of the Quran.

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. How be it when he, the Spirit of truth , is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak- ----- John 16:12-14 -

This shows that the disciples were not given a full code of life nor a full message of absolute truth. Rather they were given glad tidings that a final Prophet would come who would teach them all the truth which would not only confirm what was said before but would tell of much more to come.

Holy Quran 5:48 To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the truth of whatever there still remains of earlier revelations, determining what is true therein, and guarding it in safety:
-------------------------
This Final Prophet will come as Isaiah predicted ………. From the land of Kedar (Arabia) and from the branch of Jesse (Ishmael)

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out his roots. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord.”--- Isaiah 11:1-2

The Quran calls the Angel of Revelation (Angel Gabriel) the Ruhool Qudoos “Holy Spirit” who is sent down to “strengthen” the Prophets.

According to Encyclopedia Biblica, we read: “Jesse is contracted from Ishmael”. (Cheyene , Encyclopedia Biblica under “names”)
--------------------
Isaiah tells of the Prophecies of a “Servant of God” who will come from the land of Kedar with a divine Law and he will be victorious over his enemies in battles.

He will bring a new law and message in a new tongue(language) and the villages of Kedar will sing the praises from the mountain tops.....

“Sing unto the Lord a new song , and his praise from the end of the earth…” (V.10)

“another tongue” (Isaiah 28:11)

Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the tops of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands. --- (Isaiah 42:11).

Ishmael dwelt in the wilderness of “Paran”(Gen.21:21) He beget twelve sons one of whom was named “Kedar”. (Gen.25:13)

i am not talking about belief in the bible, or belief in a specific god or deity. but belief in the notion of god. the energy that is present in all of us that can neither be created nor destroyed. the confluence of pattern and system and similarity like a template over the universe seems to elude to something intrinsically beautiful that could rationally be explained through science and deity.
are science and god mutually exclusive?
given that we are comprised mostly of absolutely nothing but empty space, what is the glue of our structure?
this is not something that god can explain, nor science at present, but is it perhaps rational to think there is a unifying force, (not a punitive, humanistic, vindictive god per se) but a thing that is not irrational that exists through us all holding us together as part and parcel of "an elegant universe."
i am not saying i know god, or that there is proof, or that there is not, but you cannot prove the impetus behind a nothing substance, space.

People get off drugs, or alcohol without God. People defeat cancer, depression, overcome sexual abuse without God.

What I'm trying to say is, it might not be God that cured you, or helped you through a tough time, it just might be you (and/or doctors, friends and family). So be proud of yourself for overcoming any of life's struggles. Prayers aren't always answered, but positivity can do wonderful things.
