Surely it will be awesome but I'm slighly concerned about getting bored after say a million years. I mean the fun is bound to run out sometime or is it totally different than I imagine?

"Just as it is written, 'Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.' What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! For He says to Moses, 'I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.' So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs but on God who has mercy." (Romans 9:13-16)

I think there probably was some con-man magician who inspired the myth, but he certainly wasn't what the bible makes him out to be. But it could also be completely fabricated. Your thoughts?

why do people find it hard to reconcile the two? if i used a spade to dig a hole, surely its still me who dug that hole, even if i used a tool? surely it is possible to believe in both god and science?

From Yahoo news..."News reports also said that he may have been taking medication for depression, that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic,"

What again, are wrong with background checks and making people have permits and a license to carry a gun?

Our church will be celebrating its 75th anniversary and we are going to have a week long celebration. Does anyone have any ideas of any things we could do to make this special.... Any nightly theme Ideas would be appreciated.

For example... We have a youth night where one of our former members has become a state youth director, and he will be preaching. We were thinking of having a rememberance night with a slide show of past members and members that have gone on to be wiht the Lord, and we are talking of having an Old Fashioned day, with a "Old Fashioned style homecoming dinner.

We still have a week to fill! HELP!!!!LOL

THis is the Religion category- can we respect each others' beliefs without cutting someone down? I could see if we talked about religion in another category, but isn't that what this what this category is for? To explore and to understand others religions?

Ok...honestly.

Atheists look at parts of the Bible that are about wars and hardship, contradictions out of context and wacky loonies like Dawkins. Only look at evidence that suggests G-d is not real, all else is "garbage".

Believers look at how G-d blesses us, ignore Christian scandals and the pagan origins of the faith. Denies anything that goes against their denomination, even if its Biblical. Worst of all is Catholics.

Wife beaters don't look at getting help, they look to "why she deserved it".

Fat ladies don't look at the salad menu.

We see what we choose to see.

Agree? Disagree?

Some preachers say Jesus taught we are gods, in the sense that if we have faith we can do all the things he did while on earth in terms of miracles, healing, casting out demons, and other. They use John 10:34-35 and Psalm 82:6 as reference. What do you think Jesus meant by these scriptures?

John 10:34-35 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, I have said you are gods? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken.

Psalm 82:6 I said, You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.

Not trying to be hostile. Yes, I am an atheist. I know some of you will say I’ve rejected the “truth,” but let’s have a little intellectual honesty, all religions claim that theirs is the truth. If God exists, then he gave me a brain that values evidence over blind faith. In our society, faith is valued as a virtue above all others; I don’t see why. I’ve read the Bible and I’ve never come in contact with a being that has spoken to me the way God spoke to Abraham or Noah or St. Paul. I know that many of you think you’ve talked to God, but has he ever talked back in a way that can’t be dismissed as a “feeling” or a “coincidence.” When Abraham took Isaac to the mountain, was it because of a gut feeling? Ever prayed for an amputee to grow a limb back? It's not selfish...it would glorify God…it would undoubtedly convert many people…should be child’s play for an all powerful creator of the universe, and yet, it won't happen.

He left a note in his dorm that talked about "deceitful charlatans" . This is a term commonly used by muslims toward Christians. Al-Zarahri called the pope that recently.
There was also a rumor that he had something written on his forearm in ink...it supposedly said something about "Ismial" who is a prophet in the muslim religion.

What do you think?

I recently read an article by an academic who says that ancient Hebrews simply made up Yahweh (Jehova) in order to show that they were special, that God chose them over all others. What are your thoughts on that? It does seem odd that God would choose a bunch of desert dwelling nomads as his chosen ones.

It is mainly seen in the villages. Though I haven't seen it in my own eyes, I have heard a lot about this from others who live in villages. That some person, who is completely well, suddenly does strange behavior. He can't recognize any of his relatives. Sometimes he go completly crazy and even found at the top of a tree, not willing to come back. People say, they are captured by evil or fairy. They suddenly become stronger and it is difficult to hold him. He tries to run away. It takes 3 or 4 people to hold him. The only way of eradicating the evil, is some kind of voodoo done be experienced people. Then the affected person talk for the evil and says that he will go away. Then he become senseless. When he wakes up, he remembers nothing about the whole fact. Then he is quite normal. Men and women are both afftected by this but women are more in number. I still don't believe that evil thing but I am confused as my own relatives who live in villages told that they saw it happenning.

A)Listen to what they have to say
B)Ask them to leave
C)Slam the door in their face
D)Take the time to debate with them.

I generally lean more toward D;but sometimes if I dont feel like talking or I'm busy, I'll tell them no thanks and ask them to leave.
