Do you agree that most ppl claiming to be Atheist are smarter than religious people?
because MOST religious ppl are too naive see the truth or too weak to stand on their on two feet. Oh, and most atheist are not close minded??
Don't preach to me, this is a very valid and serious question....looking through questions answered by all faiths and also atheist I realize that 99% of the atheist on Y!A are a lot smarter and have more facts to back up their answers than most ''religious'' people?!???

They have done tests. Atheists normally, not always, come out a few IQ points higher or test slightly higher depending on the test. Cities with the most college graduates have the highest concentrations of atheists as well.
I was going to look up links but luckily BM did it already. I'll just say faith is forcing yourself to accept an idea your intellect would normally reject and if you have too much intellect it gets harder to force that faith upon yourself.

I agree with you reasoning but I don't know that there's anyway to prove it.
In my own experience, atheists are better read and tend to read books and magazines with a science and current event focus while Christians tend to read Christian and home books, steadfastly avoiding anything scientific. I'm not saying there are no religious scientists because there are plenty.
But by and large, I can have a more philosophical and scientific and technological conversation with a nonbeliever than a believer.

That's been my experience as well. I'm not just saying that because I'm Atheist, but because 99% of the Atheists and other non-religious people I have ever met, outwit 99% of the religious people I have ever met. Where I live now (it's scary-religious, the bible-belt) all people ever talk about is church, god, jesus, lord this and lord that. It's so tiresome. They have nothing else on their minds, it's so creepy!

As a general rule, yes. Naturally there are exceptions. There are many studies that agree with this. A link follows: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religiosity_and_intelligence
In a nutshell: "All but four of the forty-three polls I have reviewed support the conclusion that native intelligence varies inversely with degree of religious faith; i.e., that, other factors being equal, the more intelligent a person is, the less religious he is."

Yes. If you distinguish between atheists, just don't care agnostics, and strict religious people, atheists are the smartest group.
Atheists give themselves the freedom to study all books as they are written. Religion limits themselves to one book as it is written, and shoehorn everything else they read into that one book

Not at all. I know plenty religious folks who are very very smart. They just take religion for granted. I don't know why, that's just their weak point.

Yes I agree, although there are smart Christians who still grasp at belief because they are afraid to let go.
