Some preachers say Jesus taught we are gods, in the sense that if we have faith we can do all the things he did while on earth in terms of miracles, healing, casting out demons, and other. They use John 10:34-35 and Psalm 82:6 as reference. What do you think Jesus meant by these scriptures?

John 10:34-35 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, I have said you are gods? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken.

Psalm 82:6 I said, You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.

And what does this mean for religions who say Jesus was a god, but not GOD? Wouldn't this mean they are saying Jesus was on the same level as humans also referred to as gods?

Thanks Daisy, I forgot to make that clear, only the scripture in John was from Jesus, but the Psalm scripture seems to make a similar comparison.

I believe what he had, was we are all part of God and that because we are part of God, that we can tap into God's will, power, and strength.

Reading the Bible is the simple question and answer book will confuse and dismay the average reader.

I urge anyone is considering biblical study, to do so in a group or with an experienced teacher, rather than read it by themselves and leave themselves open to the fallacy and illusion they see within.

Hay read THE WHOLE thing it also says in Psalms 82:6 we are children of The Most High and the god is a small "g" when Jesus died the temple vail was torn from top to bottom before that the ONLY way to confess ones sins was through a priest, NOW you can by faith follow Jesus to come before The Father YOURSELF in John 8:58 Jesus had alread said of Himself as The I AM, and according to prophecy try this idea for size; The same obligation rests upon every follower of Christ. The apostle Peter declares, "Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people." 1 Peter 2:9. We are required by God to preserve every power in the best possible condition, that we may render acceptable service to our Creator. When intoxicants are used, the same effects will follow as in the case of those priests of Israel. The conscience will lose its sensibility to sin, and a process of hardening to iniquity will most certainly take place, till the common and the sacred will lose all difference of significance. How can we then meet the standard of the divine requirements?" "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods." 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31. To the church of Christ in all ages is addressed the solemn and fearful warning, "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." 1 Corinthians 3:17. {PP 362.1}

In the Psalms, this section God is presiding in the great assembly in heaven.

"In the orginal language, and in accordance with the conceptual world of the ancient Near East, rulers, judges, and deputies of the heavenly King could be given the honorific title 'god' or be called 'son of God." (NIV Study Bible)

Psalm 45 also gives a suggestion that David might have had the title of 'god.' This was not to say there is more than one God, but rather it was a title of honor.

Take Psalms 82:6 in context. The People are gods compared to the heathen because they rescue the weak and needy; showing them the Way to escape the consequence of sin and from those who don't know, nor do they understand the ways of God.. We are NOT now nor ever will be equal with God.. Jim

I see where you are going with this and I understand totally. The best example to give here for those who believe that Jesus is the father the son and the holy spirit is this one: When on the stake before he died he said a prayer if he is the father the son and the holy spirit who then was he praying to? Why would he need to pray to someone else? and why would he keep referring to his father if he was in fact the father. I don't refer to myself as my mother? They are separate entities. Jesus is the son of God - Jehovah is the alpha and the omega.

If you are adopted by a family do you recieve their last name? same with God. We are adopted into his family, heirs to the throne. Check out the first chapter of Ephesians. We are seated with Christ in Heaven. We speak with the authority Jesus GAVE us. Yes, we are to do all those things. And actually if you read on, it says bigger things than He did. That's a tough one to swallow!

Sounds like you are learning who you are in Christ! Holy, blameless, Righteous, Pure, Uncondiontioally Loved, and forgiven! Congratulations! Be Blessed with his Presence!!!

Jesus is recorded as having said that we are gods, yes. Elsewhere in the bible he's quoted as saying that we should be perfect, as perfect as "God" in heaven. Creative interpretations aside which try to deny this fact, Jesus clearly indicated that everyone has the potential to be a deity, yes.

The Bible also says, "Let the sleeper awaken.". It's all tied together. Jesus lost his patience when he asked don't you know that you are gods. His consciousness was expanded beyond the common man and he was trying to tell them that we are all capable of doing "miracles". We have just forgotten who we are (thanks to the church). To be kept in ignorance of who and what we really are is to be under the control of others. This renders us powerless. They don't want you to know that you are capable of the same expanded consciousness that Jesus had.
