"Buddhism, Christianity and The Questions of Creation: Karmic or Divine ?" is the only book I own by Pema Chodron.
Excellent Book.

"Open Heart, Clear Mind." & "Working With Anger" & "Cultivating a Compassionate Heart" are my favs by Thubten Chodron.
Just bought last night: "Taming The Mind"

What are your favorite books by these two wonderful authors, and why are they your favorite books ? How have your favorite books by these authors helped you in your walk of the Eightfold Path ?

Are any Buddhists/students of Buddhism out there familiar with Joseph Goldstein and
Sharon Salzberg ? If so, what do you think of their writings/books also ?

Always appreciate all your helpful, and most encouraging answers.

I am a deacon of a small church. Recently a homeless person visited church, who I believe has a severe case of lepromatous leprosy. I do not believe the person has medical treatment.

After church I sprayed the seat with lysol and will throw away the vaccum bag after vaccuming that area. Is this sufficient? What precautions should I take should that person visit again?

It's not so much the theological doctrines of each but the application of certain of these doctrines to wider society in relation to:
1) Women- are to be submissive to fathers and then passed on "untouched" to husbands to whom they must also submit. Now there is a tradition among Southern Baptists called a 'Purity Ball" where women must sign a contract of virginity with their fathers. Of course, the double standard is, the boys are not required to also do this.

2) Gay people- Homosexuality should be made a criminal offense, there should be legal discrimination of gays or better yet punishment.

3) Other faiths or non-faiths- MUST convert to our religion.

4) Government- Should not be secular but theocratic and our religion take precedence in all public forums from foreign policy to education to law.

Seems to me the issue is not about religion but fundamentalism. Isn't it time fair-minded Christians and Muslims unite against extremism on ALL SIDES?

I mean, isn't it weird that most Pro-Lifers are all for the capital punishment?

And still, I find it hard to see the core difference between "kill" and "murder", something only God has the right to, as per the OT.

My question is that I found it funny that some one was asking if you would repent even if you didnt think god was real. It made me think of people who are willingly doing something that the bible clearly points to as being a sin. (as sex before marriage, or being with one of the same sex) But they use the argument that they dont think that God will punish them for something beyond there control. So my question is that how can one judge some one for not thinking God is real? yet we all sin and some don't pay any mind to what Gods word clearly lays out for us to follow.

Im not trying to offend anyone. So please no need to be mean. I was just wondering is all.

When you are at church, mass, temple, mosque, or around others that are of strong faith, do you clean up your language or use "Christianeese" or whatever language is acceptable in that faith? Do you behave differently than you would at work or around others outside the church?

We are told to be created by God, but what about babies with rapist fathers? Here is the dilemma: Satan only destroys and he cannot create, will not create human beings, so it is implausible that Satan creates rape babies; God creates human beings on purpose as his awesome plan for the world, but it too is implausible that God works on his plan by means of sin (i.e. rape) because God is righteous. What I mean is, will you ever call a rape baby God's gift?

And why God creates human beings with defects. I am told by Christians babies are the gifts of God but what good is giving birth to a baby who is so defected/deformed that it cannot live one hour even with the best medical aid? Also why did God create hermaphrodites despite his command of creating two sexes in the beginning (see Genesis). First, human beings (including hermaphrodites) are created by God, and God did not mention there could be hermaphrodites. Mankind's fault as some say? We cannot create, only God can and does.

Someone asked a really funny question saying like 'wouldn't you feel bad if you died and blah blah that you wasted your life'

What is it we are missing out on?

Sex, drugs, alcohol(for some). I really don't see how an unchristian is living a fuller life? They are just living it differently, are they not?

If you disagree, tell me what I am missing out on.

1. Am I reading it right when it says only 144,000 people will go to heaven? Is that from everyone ever, or just when it occurs? Either way those aren't good odds.

And

2. "Revelations 7:1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree."

Where on a sphere do you find 4 corners?
