I am a deacon of a small church. Recently a homeless person visited church, who I believe has a severe case of lepromatous leprosy. I do not believe the person has medical treatment.

After church I sprayed the seat with lysol and will throw away the vaccum bag after vaccuming that area. Is this sufficient? What precautions should I take should that person visit again?

Leprosy is actually not very contagious.95% of people have a natural immunity to the disease. It is spread when an untreated person coughs or sneezes. Those who are treated with medication are not contagious at all. So my suggestion is to speak to this person and find out if there is a reason that they are not being treated. If there is a financial need than hopefully your church can show Christ's love by helping this person get the care that they need. You should be praying for and with this person. What a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate God's unconditional love.

Don't assume. Ask him next time he visits. Remeber to treat him with love and compassion. You may be able to help him get medical treatment if needed.
