God loves all people, but He also gave us agency. To have true agency, we all must be allowed to make choices. In the cases of murder, rape, etc. God allows good people to suffer because the offender must be allowed to choose. The offender may or may not be punished in this world, but each good person who suffers in this world accepted that as a condition of life before they came here. In the case of possession by an evil spirit, which I personally must attribute to mental illness, God allows us to be tempted and given trials by Satan, so that we can learn from these trials and sufferings. If we choose righteousness and humble ourselves before God it will be for our good. If we choose bitterness or defiance in the face of God, we will still have the opportunity to partake of the atonement that Christ made possible by repenting. If, indeed, this woman did have a mental illness, then those who were around her were experiencing this trial as well and will be held accountable for how they responded to her needs.
I have never seen this movie, but I would say that all movies are colored by the perception of the people who are writing and directing them, therefore they do not show facts as they are, but as the director/writer believes them to be or wants them to be shown. The fact that the movie is "based on a true story" does not mean that the events depicted in the film are true in any sense of the word.

The answer is probably the same for questions like "If God loves us so much, why does He let us suffer?": So that a greater Good can be derived from that suffering. Jesus suffered ot death on the cross so mankind would be saved. According to this reasoning, someone is possessed not as a punishment but as a symbol to all others. By the way, of course you know the movie was based on the real-life case of a german girl called Anneliese Michel. Check the movie "Requiem", you might find it a better version.

Ok..first off its a movie. But, putting that aside, how did you feel at the end? Were you pleased with the out come? Did you feel the power of God overcome those jurors that possibly found faith due to Emily's sacrifice? Just because it seems unfair to one person..Emily...look at the broader picture. If it meant one person had to suffer in this life, only to enter Heaven upon death, to save one person from eternal damnation...wouldn't it be worth it? I feel it would. Dont forget...Hollywood likes to exaggerate things.

Yeah, why could a demon take over a virtuous young girl? After all, Satan himself can't take you unless you don't believe, so why would one of his minions?
And why would God abandon one of his believers just to get more? Couldn't he figure out a better method? I can! How about just opening up the sky and saying "Hi, I am your God!"?
By the way, the REAL Emily Rose actually died of complications from Temporal Lobe epilepsy (something close to me being an epileptic myself). It was very sad and even sadder that someone would use her tragic death to fleece the fundamental Christians who will throw money at anything that supports their world view.

Well there are several points of view. the two most often taken is A: that the life of the flesh is not important, but the spirit is. The suffering of the body can free the soul. and B: that this particular God is a sadist, enjoys inflicting pain, and how much can a human endure and still hold enough Fear, or love, The difference this god can't tell... To not tell him to go F*** himself. Like I said there are several views, these are just opposing views. I suppose the viewer is supposed to receive the spiritual nourishment, or mental satisfaction, or Physical repulsion they are individually capable of. Personally after a very thorough study of many Judaic and christian texts.. I'm glad I'm a pagan. and they call Our Deities brutal.

I didn't see the movie, but be real; it's only a movie. See how hollywood can influence weak minds? I've read in here that at the end of the movie the "virgin mary" appeared to this emily? Wasn't that clue enough for you?

that's just a movie dude......hello!! if this would really happened is because there are many factors. she practiced invoking without using a sort of protection. the only way you can be poses ed is practicing/invoking a certain spirit to come to you(inside) other than that, would not happen. Spirits needs permission to enter. but to cast them out.....is a different thing....think about that. that movie only shows certain things but the actual(whole) truth about the real exorcism of this girl. Same thing with the movie the exorcist.

He allows innocent people to die everyday... not just Emily Rose.
Did you notice that the demons would only respond at the name of Jesus Christ?

You see some people are just ment to die because there death is sopposed to change other peoples way of thinking. If emily died it was for the good because it would change others way of thinking like it did yours. And besides she would have probably gone to heaven any ways if she was sucha good person.
