Why wouldn't Adam and Eve listen to the serpent? They were forbidden the knowledge to recognize him as evil. They would have seen him as good. If he is thought to be good then why not listen to him? They had no concept of evil, so they wouldn't know any better. How could they have possibly known what the serpent's intentions were when they had no concept of it? Why would Yahweh allow evil to run free around the garden, then forbid Adam and Eve the knowledge to recognize it?

I'm just curious because i went to a catholic church the other day and they prayed for like 20 dead people. Is it because of purgatory? Are they stuck there? if not because of purgatory, then why?

According to Mark 15:34, just before Jesus died on the cross, he

"cried with a loud voice 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani'
which is interpreted "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me'"

According to Mark, he died a few moments later without saying anything else. But if he knew beforehand that he would die on a cross, why did he think at the last moment that God had forsaken him? Did he forget that he would be resurrected two days later?

Do prefer white ones or brown ones.

How come there aren't any wars about color of egg preference like people go to war over preference of God?

Please understand that this is a sincere question, though I am one of those atheist folk.

One of my dearest friends is a woman of great faith. We respect each other's differences. She has another friend who has liver cancer, and who may die.

She is praying to God that he will take her friend's cancer away.

My confusion:

If God is omniscient and omnipotent and has a divine plan, wouldn't this cancer have developed because God wanted it there for whatever reason?

Why would God grant to this prayer? Wouldn't that be implying that God just allowed the cancer to see if anyone would pray for him to take it back?

If things happen, it's because (for the religious among us) God wants them to...so why would people pray to God to change his mind?

Fellow atheists and people who like to stir angst -- please move on to the next question. I am really wanting to understand this. Thanks in advance to all for their understanding.

one of my friends recently started reading this book called "battle cry for my generation" by something called teenmania ministries, or something like that. now, my question is this: is it just me, or is this organization kind of cultish? doesnt it remind you of communist propaganda? isnt it strange that they "recruit" kids into this? its things like this that make me so opposed to religion...
