Hi, Wow, this question brought out some very aggressive responses didn’t it? lol I personally don’t think such a question is offensive in the least. It is a legitimate question in the way individuals respond to wealth and how they will choose to act and behave to acquire it. I for one don’t need a lot of material wealth to feel rich or well off. I once lived in a shack and was quiet happy and content. The only major regret I have from that time was the lack of money restricted what opportunities I could provide my children. Now, with that said, I do believe there are those who treat money as a God of a sort. I also believe it enslaves and entraps those who place such importance on it. Most would be willing to be enslaved and entrapped however, and that is where the sadness lies. Individuals give up their morals and ethics to obtain all that wealth can bring. It seems that wealth will solve all their problems however the saying “You can’t buy happiness with money” is all too true. We can appear to be loved and doted upon but we can never be sure if it is our money of ourselves which is loved. That always leads to disillusionment and mistrust, which will always lead to unhappiness. I sincerely believe that those with great wealth have a much harder road to personal growth than those who are quiet poor. The children of the rich have little need to strive towards any meaningful work or task which will bring about real maturity and understanding of the world around them. Wealth also brings about feelings of entitlement and selfishness. I fully believe those who have wealth are much poorer than the poorest human on earth. While money can bring security and comfort, too much of it corrupts. I have little desire to enter into that world and experience. I much prefer my humble home and life without an iPod, Blackberry, or laptop, or MP3 player or other video equipment. I do not in the least feel deprived. We have a home we own, two cars, computers, non high definition T.V, a nice small but efficient Bose system, and enough food and clothing to stay well dressed and fed. I have the opportunity to attend higher education and that is a luxury which is unsurpassed. It expands the mind and feeds the soul. I am spiritual in nature, of the Christian faith, but do not believe one must attend a church or that God even expects it. I also firmly believe one does not have the right to force their opinions, life style, ethical and moral foundation or experience onto another. Money tends to lead to all of these and I wish to avoid that if at all possible. I struggle daily as it is to avoid judgmental behaviors and of placing my ethical expectations onto others. Money corrupts absolutely, just as power does. So, yes, people often treat money as God and they do pay a rather hefty price in the process.
What a great question; again! Your questions are so insightful and I so enjoy answering them. I do wish you a grand day and week to come. Serentiy

So by your question, you're saying we should replace "Money" with "God" in your above sentences?
E.G. - God makes the world go. God runs our lives. Everything happens for God. World respects people who have God.
I suppose in response to filling in the blanks above that I would have to say that it's obvious why money isn't treated as God. God only makes the world go, runs our lives, lets everything happen for Him, and the world respects the people who have Him?
Um yeah, case in point....

It's been my impression that a lot of people do worship money. Money, however, does not make the world go- it did that before money was invented. And it doesn't run my life- I don't have enough of it for it to do that! And while the world unfortunately does respect money, it doesn't mean a thing to God.

Money is not treated as God because Man created Money and God created Man. Since Man created money how could he possibly treat his own creation as God.

Simple, because money isn't God. It shouldn't be treated as God. No one or nothing is God.

Doh! you sound pretty disillusioned.
Remember that in America even those who lead the worship of God, beg for the all powerful money. Just watch a Televangelist if you don't believe me. They know where the real power lies.

* Money is often treated like a god. It is the “love” of money that imprisons the heart and controls the attitude towards it. We need it, get it, and desire it.
Most of us just are concern about taking care of ourselves and our family and work hard for it.
