If god appeared and performed a series miracles, it's reasonable to assume that the people who believe in him would believe even stronger, and that many people who are agnostic, would change their minds.
Some atheists would believe too, but there would still be a huge number who would refuse to accept strictly on principle, or force of habit, or spite, or whatever. I would be one of them.
There would millions of people who, despite the miracles, would deny that he was "their god", and a huge number who would still doubt the miracles were real (such is the power of denial). A huge number would ignore the event altogether.
All in all, god would have NOTHING to lose, and everything to gain by appearing. The whole argument about him not appearing because he wants us to have free will to believe is b.s. because god's appearance wouldn't REMOVE free will, it would only make the god concept that much more compelling to people who like it.
