What could any "one" preacher teach us that would even compare to an internet search?

Why do we still pay a salary to someone who is limited to "himself" and a 1611 English translation of the Bible, in regards to an undestanding of whether or not something is a sin against God?

(For example: The original text in Leviticus did not condemn homosexuality, but the 1611 translation did, so across the world Preachers have "in the name of God" condemned homosexuality. -- Finally, the research Department of the Catholic Church announced that Homosexuality was not a sin, and never was a sin. Does your preacher know what the original Bible scrolls said about the subject?)

I have been told numerous times by one self-proclaimed Christian that I will go to hell for saying Homosexuality is not a sin.

Should we blindy accept the 1611 English Bible and reject the original Bible texts?

I am not a homosexual, but I am left-handed. I was born that way. Most people are right-handed. Should I feel guilty eating my dinner with my left hand?

In 1611 the Religious Empires might just as easily condemned left-handed people in order to exclude a minority for the glory of the majority to be glad they were not born left-handed.

This is the original verse.

"V’et zachar lo tishkav mishk’vey eeshah toeyvah hee."

(Leviticus 18:22)

Dear "nexusmoon" - Roger that. I try to use the internet searches to find where I can get the information, like the internet on this subject lead me to the official Catholic Website, and also to the Hebrew text of the Bible, which I quoted above. Which has even different words than the 1611 corruption. Then I went to an ancient customs and idiomatic expressions to discover that "a woman's lyings" was the term "the wedding bed" which meant a whole host of things like marriage, and faithfullness, and no adultery, not even homosexual adultry. Before this was written, a married man spending sexual time with another man was not considered real adultry (sex). Like Clinton saying "I didn't have sex with that woman, (meaning regular missionary style sex ) or whatever.

An internet search also lead me to two other actual Bible verses with hintings of men having sex with each other and it was not big deal, it was simply like telling the color of shield or some other whatever.

Well these people are parrots. They think the word of God is unable to change. EVER.

I read the bible and understand the different versions of translation. I had no clue about the pre-1611 homosexuality being OK part. Most preachers just go with one version and stick to it. Its funny how American Christians oppose the catholic church. Which is open to things like the science of evolution as long there is a place for a creator. Some Americans and other Christians just teach people about dinosaurs walking with people.(which is no more intelligent the believing the earth is flat.)

Many preachers just preach. They don't spend time investigating.

No we should not blindly follow any book. The dead see scrolls don't match other versions of the bible. Some stories are longer some are shorter. They are just that stories.

PS: I just want to add that both the Internet and preachers can be very dangerous source of information.

WOW, you've answered your own question. Human contact clarifies the truth. People don't want to submit to anyone else these days. Not everything you read on the internet is true either. The earliest manuscripts of the biblical text are amazingly true to the 1611 version - I've seen many of them with my own eyes. Seeing Jesus in a person makes a huge impact. Church buildings are a testimony in and of themselves. Just because you talked to one Christian who was not speaking to you in a diplomatic way - does not mean they are all homosexual bashers. One can totally believe homosexuality is a sin without judging individuals thoughts on the subject. There are additionally New Testament verses that condemn much more than homosexuality even referring to basic purity and also how God gave them over to their sexual lusts. The pastor of my church is not "limited" persay to the bible. He is very knowledgeable on many things and I'm not so sure you've done enough study to be an authority yourself.

Wow. I haven't heard such honest, thoughtful reasoning in some time. I would guess it is because people often hear only what they want to hear. It is nicer to hear someone personally tell you to condemn others, rather than just read about it on the Internet. Of course homosexuality is not a sin. I am so happy to hear that the Catholic Church feels the same way. Unfortunately, this often does not pass through the diocese and thus doesn't reach the church members. Having to admit a wrong or a mistake is quite a tall order to many people. Unfortunately, most preachers do not fill it.

You are completely dead-on about learning from the Internet. Almost everyone is biased to some extent and online there is a wide variety of biases, and that can be the best part of it. Biases pretty much negate themselves when people who are studying get to hear it from all sides and not just one. As far as I can recall, the Seven Deadly Sins were quoted in the original Bible text and homosexuality was NOT one of them. People twist things to make themselves seem superior. It's all fear. The world is full of fear. However, once people can accept that and move forward they can work to eliminate it. The first place to recognize it is in oneself. I am full of fear. Actually, I suffer with a panic disorder, but I've chosen to accept my shortcomings and move on because my love supersedes my fear. Perhaps not every day, but near enough now that I understand the positivity will return. A great verse, by Max Ehrmann, called Desiderata:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all people.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to all
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive people, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself to others you will become vain and bitter;
there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let not this blind you to the virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have the right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Fear is what motivates people to be their absolute worst,to feel the need to glorify themselves and those who think like them, and stop at nothing to achieve it. Fear is certainly exercised in the church. Only people can choose to really see for themselves and in doing so, might begin to understand the tactics of fear.

As one of my favorite ladies, Maude Chardin, once said, "A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a *chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE!

Otherwise, you got nothing to talk about in the locker room."

LOL. Gets me every time.

1611 is still better than 90% of the "translations" used today. There are only a handful of texts that are more accurate than KJV, but to actually be able to understand them, you almost need to know the original languages themselve-which means you really don't "need" a translation to understand anyways.

Which "original text" of Lev 20:13 are you using anyways? Because the MT, Aleppo and Westminister-Lenigrad Codices all condem homosexuality, as does Mt19:4.

Read your catechism if you want to know what the Church teaches about homosexuality. She teaches that it is a grave, mortal sin, against God's natural order.

Here's an article addressing Catholics and homosexuality:

God bless.

Prejudice against homosexuals has nothing to do with religion... its about ignorance and intolerance. The bible has Ten Commandments, everything else is trivia.

You are an answer to your own question. Since you have your information from the internet, rather than from a reliable source, someone who has studied and could answer your question.
Most people who are ministers have studied. Most internet information is from people with an ax to grind.
Easy as that.
