Well, first off, Romans 12:19-21 states, "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, sayst he Lord." No, "if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads." Do not be overcome by evil, but over come evil with good." Also, the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5:38-39, "You have heard that it was said, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. but I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also." Both of these give reference that it is not ours to retaliate. I do think we should protect our nation, but I think the death penatly isn't a way to do it. It has been around for centuries, and people are still killing each other. Also, it is very racist. It is more likely that a black man will get the death penalty than a white man, and it is more likely that a man will over a woman. It's racist and sexist. Also, we tell children to not hit back to another person, yet, the government does just that on a larger scale. What are we teaching?

Does Jehovah God think there should be NO death penalty?
(2 Peter 3:9) Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.
If no repentance, then what?
(Revelation 19:17) I saw also an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice and said to all the birds that fly in midheaven: “Come here, be gathered together to the great evening meal of God,
(Revelation 19:21) But the rest were killed off with the long sword of the one seated on the horse, which [sword] proceeded out of his mouth. And all the birds were filled from the fleshy parts of them.

I'm not anti death penalty in theory, but in practice I'm against it, because of the abuses: so many misjudgements that have been found out later; so much corruption;
So many variations of condemnation for the same crime according to what race you are a member of;
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

I am anti-death penalty, but quoting bible references will be counter productive, with the whole book being scattered with death sentences , some even performed by the chosen people.
- stoning, hanging, crucifying, impaling, drown, thrown off cliffs and buildings.....

Bible advise to Burn the Daughter of Priest if she does sex
Leviticus 21:9
And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.
Genesis
38:24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she [is] with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
A priest's daughter, if found to have lost her virginity without marriage, can receive the death penalty, but in the form of incineration.
How many fundamentalist priests who so easily condemn others would carry out the burning of their daughters if they found them "whoring"?

I am not willing to give the state the right to take my life as part of the social contract.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. . . . Repay no one evil for evil. . . . never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord’ ” (Rom. 12:14-19)
