I know I've read a passage about prayer not being answered when you want to use what you receive for "your own desires rather than God's." It's worded something like that. Now, I can't find it. Any help?

Psalm 66:18 says, "If I hide iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me."

James 4:1-4 "What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have; [so] you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; [so] you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend [it] on your pleasures. 4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God

I think you are talking about James 4:3 'YOU do ask, and yet YOU do not receive, because YOU are asking for a wrong purpose, that YOU may expend [it] upon YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure.' Which means that our prayers must be made to the right person, God the Most High; on the right matters, in harmony with God's purpose; in the right manner, through his son Jesus Christ and with the right motive and a clean heart.

Just look at the Lords Prayer in Matthews Gospel. Jesus tells the Disciples how to pray and one of the things Jesus says is, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done." Now, by saying, "Thy will be done" Jesus is telling His disciples that when you pray don't pray for the things that YOU may necessarily want but pray for those things that Gods wants, hence, His (Gods) will be done, not ours.

James 4:2 YOU desire, and yet YOU do not have. YOU go on murdering and coveting, and yet YOU are not able to obtain. YOU go on fighting and waging war. YOU do not have because of YOUR not asking. 3 YOU do ask, and yet YOU do not receive, because YOU are asking for a wrong purpose, that YOU may expend [it] upon YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure.

(Jude 17-18) As for YOU, beloved ones, call to mind the sayings that have been previously spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 how they used to say to YOU: “In the last time there will be ridiculers, proceeding according to their own desires for ungodly things.”

First Roman Catholic Bible was published at Rheims in 1582.

These called RCV version of Bible.
The Protestants regarded 7 books as ‘apocrypha’ (doubtful authority) and removed them from Bible.
(The Book of Judith
