Can't most practices and beliefs be viewed as techniques for transforming the mind?

What I really want to know is, not what you profess to know, but what do you think of/imagine/visualize when you pray to or think of God?

pls. no Bible quotes already!

serious question! it's weird to me, the whole notion of God, hence this question.

I have been given several talents but am unaware how I should use them.

The first of which, is a gift for music. I love to sing and can sing well (or so I've been told). I can also rearrange hymns to make accompaniments on my computer for my mother, who can sing better than I.

I also have a gift for medicine. As my screen name says, I was once an EMT (Emergency Medical Tech), but I couldn't keep up with my continuing education points to recertify my license.

I also have a gift for humor. I love to make people laugh.

Lastly, I have the git for listening and compassion. Throughout high school, I was always the one the girls came to with thier problems and I would help them as best I could.

With all of these things, there must be a way to serve my God and Savior better than I am. I would appreciate any input from my fellow Christians.

So, you think there is no God??? Just look at the universe. By saying there is no God your saying that by about 1 in 100 trillion chance the world was made. Cause an explosion just spread out everything and it just "happened" to fall into place.

Answer this, if I put the parts of a watch in a bag and shake the bag for my whole life(or even for a trillion years) are those parts ever going to fall into place and make a watch? No. The precision of this earth is so great that it had to have been made by God, Chance just doesn't make the earth within a billion of centimeter of either freezing or burning. Chance doesn't give our earth the perfect sized atmosphere and magnetic field. Chance just doesn't make things so perfect.

Last thing, you say the earth is billions of years old. Well whenever a star explodes, it lets out a nebula gas or whatever which takes a certain amount of time to expand. But there is only enough of that gas in space for about 12,000 years!

If it says its the word of God inside of it then isn't it calling itself holy?

How can you believe it?

What are some of the reasons that you felt yourself being called into the service of Christ Jesus and his teachings? Do any of you as Christians try to convert someone to your faith even after they have told you that they are not interested? and last does anybody in this Christian group feel that your beliefs seem to make you a more open/available target for over active non-Christians? I do thank each and everyone of you fine Christians for answering these questions. And ask any non - Christians that may wish to answer this why are you wasting my time? Good day to all!!
Big D.

Amazing delusion. I guess if you have people drilling this into your brain day after day you will believe it. This divine origin thing I suppose is the beginning of their lies. What to say? Don't believe everything you are told.

After discussing the Quaran, i'm curious to know how come Jesus is mentioned three times more often than Allah, his virgin birth is accepted, yet he's only accepted as a prophet? It almost seems like there's another story line brewing

For those who want to try and quote bible to prove there is flaw in God. When you quote the bible, make sure you are quoting it in the right context.
I like debating thoughts and views, but if if your view isn't legit, we Christians have to explain what you are reading to you, then give you our views. Frankly, I doubt some of you read all the answers. Give us a challenge. Please. Thanks.

looking back over previous answers to the nature of god, several responders said, you can't define or describe god, since god is "spirit."

i'm curious (sincerely) what this means. when you say "spirit" do you have anything at all in mind, or just a blank, or a vague sense of something like "nature"?

I, myself believe that consciousness, or the ability to understand our existence relative to other living things, was developed over time through the process of natural selection (that is, one of the tools which enabled us to thrive) . Consciousness exists almost separately from the body, perhaps this is what leads people to believe that we have souls. It's to the point now where we have constructed our entire society to accommodate our consciousness as opposed to the body (or animal, which doesn't require the social constructs to survive). Anyways, what do you understand consciousness to be and what role does consciousness play in your beliefs in an afterlife? People talk about the afterlife as if it's necessary to validate our efforts or suffering, and yet without this consiousness we wouldn't even be fully aware that an end to life was comming. And if we are the only species that can(or can't) comprehend the significance of our demise (consciousness), what does it meanto"be alive"?

I am a former Christian, and I am very interested to see if anyone has thought these things and remained Christian. Thanks.

How you ever thought that maybe there is more than one almighty being?

Have you ever questioned that Jesus was the son of God?

How would you feel if you found out that wasn't true?

What would you do then?

What makes you so sure that you are right?

Why do people go crazy for Carnival and basically do anything possible before Lent? It never really made sense to me, because at least for me, it seems better to take everything in moderation than to have everything on one or a few days and then delve into more severe austerities.

Any help clarifying the significance of holding Carnival/Mardi Gras before Lent would be greatly appreciated.

"People born in February, March and April are 5-10 times more likely to be schizophrenic than those born in other times of the year. Those born in April or June are 13 per cent more likely to be anorexic. As for suicides, 17 per cent more people kill themselves if they have a birthday in April, May or June."

This comes from the Jan. 27 issue of New Scientist magazine, a respected publication. What, if any, implications do you think these findings have?

I have followed Pope Benedicts history for close to twenty yearsw and every document regarding homosexuals has shown to be ones involving insensitivity, and disregard for their feelings. In one letter he blamed the voilence and discrimination some have expeirenced on themselves. In a second letter he urged the bishops to oppose their civil rights and finlay in a third he said that those in relationships should not be treated with any respect. It is very disturbing his attitude towards them.
