What I really want to know is, not what you profess to know, but what do you think of/imagine/visualize when you pray to or think of God?

pls. no Bible quotes already!

serious question! it's weird to me, the whole notion of God, hence this question.

This question really made me think. For me, I guess I don't really visualize God because He is beyond what my mortal eyes are able to perceive.

The only analogy I can think of is comparing myself to a child who is visually impaired - even though I can't "see" my Heavenly Father, I can sense His presence in other ways. While a blind child might not be able to perfectly visualize or describe their father's physical features, they know him for who he is (his character), what he does, and how he makes them feel.

So, when I pray, I "think in feelings" such as all encompassing love, joy, peace, refuge, etc. I can't SEE my Heavenly Father, but I KNOW Him because of the lessons He has taught me, the prayers He has answered in a personal way, the guidance He has given when I'm faced with tough decisions, and the love and peace He imparts. Hope this helps!

As a child, I would pray to God with the image of literary Zeus in mind (with the thunderbolt and all). And when I pray to Jesus Christ, I pray to the usual friendly face who hugs me when I'm down and rejoices with me when I'm joyful. (seriously)

But of course, as I grew up I realized that my images of God and Jesus were superficial. Now, when I talk to them through prayer, I just am talking to an all-encompassing being. A being which no one will be able to describe. I just know he's there. His love touches my being in so many ways that would be hard for me to articulate. He's just there. He's greater than I can ever (or any other human for that matter) can conceive of. (okay, sorry for that last line, I kinda stole that from St. Anselm of Canterbury)

To me. God is a personage. So it's really not hard to picture him--he looks like a person would look, though I imagine him to be white haired and kindof shining. I imagine him to be wearing a white robe, etc.
But I have always been curious as to what people who don't picture God as a personage think of when they pray. Is it just to the air?

My kid sees a very old man with a long white beard. I feel his presence more then see Him. Each individual sees God in their own way. The image that appeals to them and makes them feel comfortable.
Though when I do visual Him, I see Him in warrior mode mostly.

Barry, God is an individual like you and me. That is what I believe.I believe Christ was the literal son of God. I believe that they are two separate beings.I do NOT believe in the so called "triune" because it makes absolutely no sense. The Bible teaches us that Christ was resurrected with his body. That tells us that he is a physical being. For those who say God is a spirit and that God and Christ are one, they are contradicting themselves and scripture. They will also say that we don't know the true nature of God, and while I agree with that, we do know some things about the nature of God. We know he is perfect. We know he is just. We know he has a body. Period.
