Smoking is injurious to your health whether you are a Christian or an Atheist...Though in those days smoking was not practised...Bible indirectly says that smoking is a sin...but generally, the comments are:
1. The Bible has nothing to say about smoking.
2. It only hurts me and no one else.
3. I need to smoke because it calms my nerves.
4. It gives me pleasure and hurts no one else.
5. I know someone who smoked all their lives and did not get cancer.
Of course all these statements are false except that smoking does give a degree of pleasure.
Let me quote few verses from bible:...1 Cor. 6:19-20)
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s."
How would you apply God's instruction when He tells us, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Rom. 12:1-2). The only sacrifice that was acceptable to God was one without spot or blemish. How can we presently ourselves as a sacrifice that is holy, meaning separated from sin, if we are addicted to tobacco and destroying our health. How can we attempt to be transformed by the renewing of your minds when we have no regard for our testimony, our personal health or the health and spiritual welfare of others? How can we prove what is God's good, acceptable and perfect will of God with pack of cigarettes in our pocket?
Is smoking a sin? You bet it is!
I can quote many reference from The Bible that smoking is sin apart from killing your health....Yes smoking is sin, because smoking is addictive. The Bible say in Ephesians 5:18 "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." In other words let the Holy Spirit control your actions and life. Smoking is an addition that takes control of our lives away from us. Second hand smoke from cigarettes harms not just the smoker, but family, friends and co-workers. The Bible says we are to love our neighbor. Jesus said that loving one's neighbor was next to loving one's parents "Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Matthew 19:19 ). Romans 13:10 teaches us that "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour." It is certainly not an act of love to smoke around other people exposing them to the deadly effects of cigarette smoke. Exodus 20:13 commands that "Thou shalt not kill." Smoking is certainly killing one's self which is a form of suicide. About 419,000 people die each year from cigarette and cigar smoking and that is only in the United States. Smoking causes 20 percent of all deaths in the United States each year. Some people refuse to admit that smoking is harmful to one's health. Even if smoking did not harm people's health, it certainly harms a Christian's testimony! 1 Thessalonians 5:22 tell us to "Abstain from all appearance of evil." God is saying that we are to abstain not from only evil itself but even from that which would appear to be evil. Barnes says, "There are many things which, in themselves, may not appear to us to be positively wrong, but winch are so considered by large and respectable portions of the community; and for us to do them would be regarded as inconsistent and improper." (Barnes New Testament Notes, 1 Thess. 5:22). It is sinful to let our pleasures stand in the way of our testimony and let our indulgences be a stumbling block to others.

May God Bless you!

Of course not, some great Christians have also smoked pipes. For ages, thinking men (and some women) have taken to the quiet consolation of smoking a pipe as they consider the issues that face mankind. Ronald Reagan smoked a pipe, although I never saw him do so publicly.
I think the difference of smoking a pipe versus cigarettes, or even cigars, is that most pipe smokers do so as a quiet tradition where quality tabaccos are selected, each with different qualities that spur specific emotions such as calm, introspection, and a feeling that one is a part of nature. Such things are very good for a Christian, I think.

Nope I don't feel its wrong to smoke a pipe if you are christian. Just because someone tells you or thinks you shouldn't does not make it right or wrong. In fact when I was a kid (15 years ago!), the priests at my church smoked pipes and cigars. So there you go...

So to the people saying you are destroying gods creation by smoking a pipe. What would you say to obese people? That they are destroying their bodys by over eating? How about the people who speed, are they risking destroying their bodies if they get in a wreck?

Come on people, god gave us free will. I am free to smoke a pipe if I want to, drink beer if I want to, swear if I want to, etc...

In Lewis, and Tolkein's time, they had no idea of the harm that tobacco does. In general, as life (and our bodies) are gifts from God, and therefor Holy, anything we do that deliberately damages our bodies can be seen as a sin. Smoking absolutely does this, so, in that regard, it is a sin. Drinking alcohol, in moderation, does no harm, and in fact may do some good. Drinking to excess does harm, and would be considered a sin (in fact, drunkenness is dealt with that way in the Bible).

ANSWER:

That's easy. There is nothing specific about smoking being a sin. The issue is simply does it take away from you glorifying God? That's what you should be concerned with.
The reason I bring that up is because you know the dangersinvolved with smoking. Can it hinder your life? Yes (lung disease, cancer). God have a purpose for all of us. It could affect that purpose by cutting your life short or affecting how you proclaim the gospel. I say it could. I have friends that preach and they smoke. I don't believe it to be a sin, but I do believe that it has some negative affects that could hurt you in the long run.

the decision, as it has always been, is up to you. Do you want to give your 100% or take a strong risk in limiting you from giving your all?

It's wrong to smoke a tobacco pipe if you are a living breathing human without cancer.

I Corinthians 3:16, 17Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

You are supposed to be the temple of God, aren't you???
I say to you, weigh everything against the Bible. If you didn't feel convicted about your pipe, and everybody didn't tell you it was wrong, you wouldn't be asking somebody else. Take it from somebody who was delivered from smoking(among other things), your walk with God will grow if you ask Him for help in this area.
You might argue that Jesus said "it's not what enters the body that defiles the body, but what exits the body that defiles that man". Don't exhale...

Tobacco is dangerous. It is the leading cause of cancer and heart disease as well as many other respiratory diseases. You are slowly killing yourself and committing suicide if you smoke in any form. And you endanger others in your environment from second hand smoke. Chewing tobacco is also unhealthy as well as unsightly. quit being a fool stop that crap. Stop believing something is ok because it is only a little sin.

I will not say it is right or wrong. I will say that these scriptures give me an idea of what God feels on the issue. 2 Corinthians 7:1 Matthew 22:39 I will keep looking for relevant scriptures. But I think the first one makes it very clear. I hope you are able to take it to heart.

In the Bible God said nothing specifically, directly about smoking tobacco in any form. However, there are verses which directly address God's desire that we take care of our bodies in general. This would naturally cause us to carefully choose what we put into our lungs and stomach, and it would generally favor a lifestyle that would produce longevity (e.g. exercise).
