My girlfriend is Mexican and yesterday she was watching news on one of the spanish speaking channels. I caught a glimpse of these people, but I do not speak spanish and she wasn't paying attention. Anybody heard of them? Who are they? What do they believe?

Why not? If I go in to the town square so everyone can see my piety and hold a knife over my son saying I'm going to kill him as a sacrifice to god and then I say... no wait, god changed his mind - he said a lamb will do.

Will people venerate me the way they do, Abraham? I'm not willing to climb any mountain but I can go in to a room on my own and come back with papers that must have been written by GOD. What do you think?

This is really weird. My great grandfather, Matthew, who actually lived in the middle east many, many years ago...or so he claims...has always been a bit of an oddball...It has gotten worse and worse. He claims that he is over 2000 years young and that he was one of Jesus's followers...indeed he penned much of the New Testament...according to his talking. I don't beleive this nonsense...or at least I didn't...until I found some odd scriptures in a shoe box...with some kind of weird writing....I took it to a theology college...and they studied if for months...and now they want to ask me a whole pile of questions...they keep wanting to talk to my great grandfather too...What do I do? Could it be true???

This passage is from the Wikipedia article about Jesus:

"Christians also predominately profess that Jesus suffered death by crucifixion,[54] descended into Hell (variously understood as either the place of eternal punishment or place of the dead),[55] and rose bodily from the dead in the definitive miracle that foreshadows the resurrection of humanity at the end of time,[56] when Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead, resulting in election to Heaven or damnation to Hell.[57]"

In reciting the Apostle's Creed, in my experience it has always been said that Jesus descended into Heaven, not Hell.

So, my question is this: did Jesus descend into Heaven or Hell?

Let's take some examples:
A) Lot, who in Gen.19:8 offers his two virgin daughters to a crowd of angel rapers and later(19:30-38) impregnates them, was a "righteous man." Peter 2,2:8
B) James says Abraham was justified by works (for being willing to kill his son for God); Paul (Rom.4:2-3) says he was justified by faith (for believing that God would order him to do such an evil act). James 2:21
C) Jesus says that his disciples must hate their families (mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children) and themselves. Luke 14:26
D) Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as required by Old Testament law. Mark 7:9-10
E) Jesus will reward men who abandon their wives and families. Mark 10:29-30
F) In the parable of the unforgiving servant, the king threatens to enslave a man and his entire family to pay for a debt. This practice, which was common at the time, seems not to have bothered Jesus very much. Matt 18:25

According to Christians - are all the souls alive before Christ or who lived in a country other then the middle east back then, or the really ancient cultures - are they all in hell?

Mayans, Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Native American Indians, Hindu, Ancient Chinese, are all these souls still trapped in hell according to your beliefs?

Someone on this board said the following:

"All inhabitants of heaven will be coming back with Christ at His Second Coming and we'll be back on earth with Him. He will rule and reign for 1000 years and then after Satan is tossed into the lake of fire once and for all, a new heavens and earth will be formed and we'll live with Christ forever and ever."

So once Satan is (dead?) or whatever - and hell has been dismantled - doesn't that mean all the souls who are currently being tortured there either cease to exist at all - or recieve full pardons and enjoy the pleasures of heaven with the rest of us?

If not then what happens to them once hell is gone?

In the bible it says God will basically give you what you ask for - and that prayer can move mountains and such.

If enough people pray could we get God to destroy heaven or turn a mountain in to solid platinum - I mean can he do anything useful or do all the prayers have to be like 'God please make this coin flip come out heads' in which case heads means god loves you tails means god works in mysterious ways.

My coworker and I are having a debate about if there is any way to know God exists (its really really slow today). I don't think there is a way to know and that people just assume but they really don't know. He believes in God and claims to know God exists through faith. I think that's BS because faith is only needed in the abscence of knowledge and that he is just making an assumption. Am I missing something? Because I simply don't understand how someone can know anything through faith.

The Jehovah's think their the most picked on, they say mainstream Christians hate them, the Mormon's think they're the most hated, the atheists think the Christians pick on them and the Christians think the atheists cause all the problems. And the poor Muslims ........... everyone picks on them.

Geez, everybody. Let's just get along and stop feeling we're the most picked on. Let's just agree to disagree.

The book of Revelation was written before other books in the New Testament and was considered heretic until about 350 AD when the Catholic Church decided to stick it at the end of its "Official Canon" with those verses at the end.

So since the book of Revelation was written separately from the other books (even John's own other books, he "added unto" what had already been written), wouldn't those two verses apply just to Revelation and not the entire Bible?

It was the Catholic Church who defined what the Bible consisted of. Many books/gospels written by reliable sources (Paul's 3rd epistle to the Corinthians, the Gospel of James, the 2nd epistle of Jude, the History of the Apostles, etc.) Isn't it pretty subjective then to say that the Bible is infallible and complete? I mean, the word "Bible" means "the books" and doesn't even appear once in the Bible itself.

Anyway, if someone can get me a better definition of these verses than 'you can't add to the bible', I would appreciate it.
