I'm not a believer, but if it happens, I would hope for something much more dramatic like a comet smashing into Mississippi or something like that.

Well I'm not a believer and the world won't end in any biblical way, but I can offer a helpful answer anyway:

Volcanos are a nice thought, but they wouldn't be able to make the whole planet go dark for very long, even if they were to erupt all over the Earth.

Your best bet would be a comet or meteor slamming into the Earth. If it's big enough it can kick up enough dirt and dust into our atmosphere to effectively blot out the sun and entire sky for several months to years. That's one of the postulations as to how the dinosaurs may have died - most of the plants died without sun and most other lifeforms went out too.

And many people saying the sun will disappear when it expires and go black - that's not at all what scientists are saying, nor is it what will happen. You see, a couple billion years before the sun actually "dies" it will become a red giant - it will become huge, expanding in size until the surface is a little past the orbit of Mars. The Earth will be in the growing path and will be swallowed by the sun and melted into energy.

That's a very logical idea as to what could cause something like that. It's very likely, also. However, I'm sure God could just as easily just snap His fingers (Figuratively, of course..Not necessarily literally. lol) and make all of those things happen. The idea is to get everyone in the world to notice His coming, right? So something that catastrophic would certainly cause a lot of attention towards the skies.

I think the 'only' problem with the volcano idea is that it could take awhile. Smoke doesn't travel in an instant, and it would more than likely gradually cause a black out like described in the Bible. I think the prophecy means it will be more of a sudden thing. However, I can't really prove it either way, I guess.

Blessings and Love,
Sarah

Here is the passage. It looks to me like the power of God is at work here. He really doesn't need to use volcanoes or whatever to do this, but He may.

Revelation 6:12 I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood. 13 Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places.

Not a believer but I'll humor your question. There are many things that could block out the sun, moon and the stars. An asteroid impact would throw dust in the air and the dust could block out the sky same thing would happen with a nuclear blast. Clouds and smog could also block out the sun. There is a whole range of things that can block out the sun.

First, one correction: the Bible never says the world will end. Instead, the earth will be purified by fire and all impurities will be burned away (Malachi 3:2 and 2 Peter 3:7). This is symbolic of Jesus' judgement on the earth and all who dwell upon it. This is not a literal burning, but a purge of evil.

Regarding your question, although I believe the darkness will be literal, I also believe it will be symbolic. It appears to be God's way of telling the unrepentent that they are "blind" and cannot see the truth of what's been happening over the previous 7 years. In fact, we are told people will blame God during that time, but STILL not repent! (Rev. 16:11 and 21) Just how spiritually blind does a person have to be to live through 7 years of hell on earth, knowing it's from God, yet STILL refuse Him? Answer: pretty darn blind!

Remember, God controls the weather and atmosphere. He can bring darkness, rain, hail, fire (and anything else) at will.

Most religions have a story somewhere about the sky going dark and so forth.

I see religion as early forms of science, trying to understand and explain natural phenomena, both physical and social. The impact of a volcano can be immense and widespread; of course people incorporated that into their stories. After Paul, Christianity's stories are about a world to come.

The world will end. The bible is real. The Torah and Hebrew writings are a people's attempts to make sense of the world and their place in it. The Christian canon is someone else's attempts to supercede the earlier writings and set itself as superior.

For the information of someone that replied earlier, no one i n the Bible thought that the world was flat. That was in your history book. Your mixing up your information.

And to your question, yes, the world will go dark. I am not sure when , but it wil. The Lord has the ability to do anything. He might make the sun stop, but I honestly don't think it will be volcanoes though.

I was thinking possibly pollution. It doesn't have to be black clouds to make the sky dark. Just if the sun and stars are not visible. When you are in a big city, the smog causes you not to be able to see many, if almost none of the stars at night. Another possibility would be the aftermath of a nuclear explosion -lots of smoke, though there wouldn't be many(if any) survivors to see it.

Well, I feel it will be like it was when Jesus died....the sky turned dark and stayed that way for 3 days...God can make the sun, moon, and stars not shine just as He did then....that is just what I think..I am not sure though....interesting thought about the volcanos...

Volcanos are one way the Lord may blacken the skies, but He is Lord. He will blacken the skies any way He wants. He could just have a full eclipse. he could also just take out the sun all together.

The Bible also mentions he will come like a theif in the night. I love this, cause it makes me realize . . they won't even know we're gone till they wake up . . then it will be too late.

In any case, you won't see black skies for long. Jesus will take us up so fast we won't even know what happened.
