In the bible it says God will basically give you what you ask for - and that prayer can move mountains and such.
If enough people pray could we get God to destroy heaven or turn a mountain in to solid platinum - I mean can he do anything useful or do all the prayers have to be like 'God please make this coin flip come out heads' in which case heads means god loves you tails means god works in mysterious ways.

God is omnipotent and knows each and everyones hearts. He knows who does and does not care and he answers prayers most certainly if they are in earnest and for a good reason that glorifies Him. God is not just up in Heaven taking requests on an order pad or something. You must pray with all of your heart and be serious about what you are praying for.

Prayer is what magicians and skeptics call "counting the hits". You notice when prayer works, you notice it more often than when it dosen't. This is also how "psychics" shotgun a ton of predictions to the police on a case and look like miracle workers when one or two work.

God can do anything; However He will only do what is best for the person praying the prayer...He is not going to destroy Heaven, that would not be good for anyone...

God will give you your desires. If you are a Christian, you should desire to be more like Jesus. That is what God will grant you--a more Godly life.
It does not mean that He becomes a genie in a bottle.

You need to read the context of the verse, that is, that God knows what we need, he won't give you whatever you want to do (or destroy). But he will give you what you need if you pray for it.
