I think most Catholics and nonCatholic Christians would agree that you cannot earn salvation by "works" or rituals - it is something given by God
but then I have understood that we must continue to "work out" our salvation all through life - I guess this "working out" is different from works but I dont know how or what that exactly that means

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Phil. 2:12
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

5
