While the majority of Muslims are peaceful, I have come to the conclusion that Islam sanctions violence as evidenced by the jihadists & the failure of Muslims to bring the jihadists to justice. The jihadists cite the Koran as the basis of their violence. The fact that the Koran advocates violence at all seems contrary to the will of God. While other countries allow Muslims to practice their religion, I find it interesting that they do not allow others to practice theirs in Islamic countries. I am sorry to have reached this conclusion because I have always believed in tolerance of others but feel we can no longer afford to trust anyone who is Muslim. After all, you can't judge who is a terrorist or who isn't.

Can anyone give me reason to change my mind?

I was wondering to all the Athiests, do you believe in an afterlife or a soul? Or is it like once you die thats it? And Christians what is heaven for you? Whats it like?

"I'm more spiritual than religious." The saying just confuses me a bit; for whatever reason, I can't grasp what people are trying to say. Don't most all religions require spirituality in order to truly be a part in that specific religion? Thanks for any help!!! ;-)

It makes PERFECT sense that mankind would create a religon that helps them cope with the death and violence around them. It makes even better sence how mankind would use their religon for finacial gain and social power. During the early years almost everyone was a peasants or slaves so, of course, they are going to incorporate that into their religon to make it seem like life is more than working for nothing, and dying. Anyone see where I am going with this?

I've seen a lot of good questions on the religious section, asking for personal beliefs and personal opinions. And I've seen people answer these with, "God will judge," and "God knows." To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any gods on Yahoo! Answers (if they were, I bet they'd have really awesome avatars, though.). So, when someone asks you a question about your personal opinion, if you don't want to share your opinion, why bother answering? Is it just for the two points? Because that's like going to questions totally at random and answering with "I don't know," and "I have no opinion."

I'm not trying to be mean, but I would like to know: why bother answering?

SAINT PETER STOOD GUARD AT THE GOLDEN GATE
WITH SOLEM MIEN AND AIR SEDATE.
WHEN UP TO THE TOP OF THE GOLDEN STAIR
A MAN AND A WOMAN ASCENDING THERE.

APPLIED FOR ADMISSION, THEY CAME AND STOOD
BEFORE SAINT PETER, SO GREAT AND GOOD.

THEY ASKED SAINT PETER TO LET THEM IN.

THE WOMAN WAS TALL, AND LANK AND LEAN,

HE THOUGHT, IF THE WOMAN WENT DOWN BELOW,

SAINT PETER, STANDING ON DUTY THERE,
OBSERVED THE MAN'S BACK AND SAID,

THIRTY YEARS, WITH A HEAVY SIGH, AND ASKED WHY?

SAINT PETER WAS SILENT, WITH HEAD BENT DOWN,

THEN SEEMING A DIFFERENT THOUGHT TO TAKE,
SLOWLY, HALF TO HIMSELF, HE SPOKE.

SWEARING IS WICKED, SMOKING NOT GOOD,

A JEWELD HARP WITH GOLDEN STRING,

That part of the story does not make sense. If jesus was alive today and the Jews tried to torture and murder him, these nutty christians would go on a jewish murdering rampage fueled by the "holy spirit" I guess it is just a story with a message.

If you do believe that the rest of us are damned....
Then do you belive that the following people are saved...

1. The local priest who's a Gambler (yup that's where this week's contributions went to)

2. The other town's priest who got my friend's daughter pregnant (and refuses to acknowledge)

3. The lady who sits in church singing songs of praises while looking at the homosexual couple in the next pew with scorn.

4. The husband who goes to church every sunday with his wife and 4 kids, and then goes home to sit behind his computer searching out the best porn 4 free sites

My dad is non-religious - does not believe in God, never will, and does not want me believing either. My mother is very religious and she wants me to be as well. I am very confussed,and do not know what to believe in. It is putting me in an akward position and a lot of stress on me. If anyone has any advice on what I should do that would be great. thanks :)
