well, the power of neoCONS has been diminished and with their diminishment so goes the influence peddlers for the radically religious Fundy zealots. the Bush admin has been outed for snickering behind the backs of Fundy leaders and little of the Fundy agenda has been inserted into the law of the land. "Intelligent Design" is not on the public school science classroom curriculum, a woman's choice is still intact, discrimination against gay Americans hasn't been written into the Constitution and stem cell research goes on in the private sector. for now the Fundy agenda is stalled. but keep ever vigilant. they will try again to make America a "Christian Nation".

I thought that about a year ago (the first question, not the second), but I think the tide has changed. Fundamentalist Christians, or Evangelicals, have pretty much cut their own throats for a number of reasons. They never have a lack of leaders in trouble for either stealing, lying, or being on the down low or some such scandal. They were used shamelessly by Bush, especially in the 2004 election. Many of them have realized it and this will make many of them wary of Republicans offering divine candy in the future. I have hope that their slander campaign against gays in general is not taking hold in moderate's hearts. The polls have indicated this is true in a consistent fashion, showing slow but steady approval ratings rising in regard to gay rights. This suffices to beat back their self-righteousness enough to satisfy me that for now, a theocracy is not in their future - unless they move and build one themselves. I would never deny them their right to practice their religion as they see fit. That would be lowering myself to their level. But I also will fight them in the streets before I let them dictate how my life should be lived per their so-called "moral" standards. Few things make me more angry than a self-righteous proseltyzer arrogantly making pronoucements from a glass house. I just return their lack of respect right back to them, tenfold.

If anything keeps America alive it will be a belief in God by the people. That is what our nation was founded upon. All of the founding fathers were devoutly religious and recognized God's hand in preserving them and their freedoms. Don't think we are gonna let them.
I don't think revolting is the answer. Fighting against something is the best way to get it to stick around.
Instead, try love. That should work.
They love us with the love of the Lord. Let's try loving them back.
That'll probably turn em' inside out, a bit! Lol

I don't think conservative Christians are holding America back. I do think that we can blame Bush for using it to form political policy; hypocrite that he is.
I don't think we'll be experiencing this problem now that the dems have control of congress. To paraphrase Jeff Probst on "Survivor," The people have spoken.

Actually, I do believe that they are holding back social progress, but I also believe that they have a right to hold back social progress. There's no law against having bad ideas, and that's a good thing.
