Just like the Richards deal......when the offers stop coming in, the PR man does spin. Apology is one of the best forms of ingratiation.

There was not one thing in Passion that was "anti-Semitic." The actress that played Mary the Mother of Jesus is Jewish, and she approved of everything in the movie.
Mel Gibson made The Passion of Christ because God had done a new work in his life and he wanted others to be able to share in it. Also he was not happy with the lame way Hollywood had handled the story in the past, and he wanted to show a more real account of what had happened.

A lot of people said it was for the money. What a crock that is!!!!!!!!!!! He spent over 60 million dollars of his own money to make it, and was not guaranteed one Penney. So how can that be "for the money"?

He's no atheist - he's a true believer. He and his wife have a bunch of kids because his religion doesn't condone birth control. He made that snuff film (and that's exactly what that piece of violent filth is) of his to make money off of the HUGE religious audience he knew he would have. I'm sure the stab at the Jews was intended.

OK, I don't know I would classify Mel as devout Roman Catholic, when basically he set up his own church so services could be in Latin and not English. Check out his father's beliefs . . . don't think the apple strayed far from the tree.

Mel is a christian, he had a Church built on his land in LA. He might be anti-Semitic if his comments when he was pulled over for drinking and driving.
As for the movie...

As others have stated it was not for the money or nor was he an athiest, he choose to do it because he wanted to share the message of Christ with many who go to the movies but do not read the Bible.

Mel may be a lot of things, but "atheist" is not one of them.

he was just giving a literal interpretation of the bible, but with a bit of a twist to it.

Remember, his father is a holocaust denier

I thought pissing off the Jews was one of his religious beliefs.

...and no, he's a devout Roman Catholic and has been for many years.

Hey, don't lump Mel in with me. I do believe he is at least a little "anti-Semitic".
