"I'm more spiritual than religious." The saying just confuses me a bit; for whatever reason, I can't grasp what people are trying to say. Don't most all religions require spirituality in order to truly be a part in that specific religion? Thanks for any help!!! ;-)

I think they mean that they don't go to church. They don't believe in religion as an institution but they believe in God. However, how can they learn about God without religious services as that is the whole point of organized religion - to teach the word of God & how to apply it in our lives.

I used to say something very similar to this. I think the meaning of it revolves around how you define the term "religion". What I meant when I said it was that I believed in God and things of a spiritual nature, but I did not conform to any particular organized religious denomination or dogma. I was open to many spiritual interpretations and willing to accept truth wherever I found it. In contrast to this, many people label themselves by the organized religions in which they participate and are unwilling to accept anything outside of that particular group's teachings. They call themselves Hindus or Muslims or Catholics or Baptists or Christians or what have you. I don't accept any of those labels because they place limits on God who has no limits. If pressed for a label, I'd call myself a child of God. In spiritual terms we are all brothers and sisters, children of the one ultimate Father.

I am a Christian and to me religion is more ritualistic than anything. Yes I have a religion name, but I am not religious. I have a relationship with God. I don't follow any rituals or whatever. I just have a spiritual relationship with God.

You can be religious about anything. Being religious is not the sole dominion of religions. Anything that you do with persistence and zeal can be said to be done religiously. As well as being spiritual is not the sole expression of religious beliefs. Understandably, confused because people who make such statements are really saying that they are uncommitted. "BEWARE OF WHAT KIND OF SPIRITS AND RELIGIOUS BEHAVIOR YOU ENCOUNTER". There are plenty of evil spiritual and miss-guided religious people in the world. The Holy Bible teaches that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

If you develop your faith in God, then you will be "persistent" in your practices. Love causes us to has a sincere desire for relationship with the one we love. If we Love God, our desire will be for His presence in our lives. We become "religious" in praying and reading God's Word. We become spiritual because God is a spirit, and we must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

Organized religion is the culmination of like minded men and women sharing their faith. Religion is an off shoot of religious practices, not the creator of them. Religion is the result of spiritual and religious practices, not the cause.

Spiritual - your personal connection with the Deity
Religious - the rituals, rules, and community that forms among people who follow the same Spiritual path.

You can be Spiritual without being Religious - you can be very connected with your God, but not go to church, etc.

You can also be Religious without being Spiritual - you can go to church, "talk the talk", and go through all the motions, but without having any sort of real connection with your God.

as someone who does not subscribe to a RELIGION but who has a very close and deep relationship with GOD, I feel blessed knowing that I can see things clearly, trusting in hiswisdon which spans the universe and dimensions. Firstly, religions are by and far based on the interpretations of GODs word and plan. Their doctrines, their agendas are flawed, as they are...and more often than not they have been used to further whatever endeavors they deem or deemed essential. With God there is nothing hidden or nebulus. One only need think of him as a father who wants nothing more than the best for his child. And to that end, since he knows all and sees all and is the designer and creator, knows full well what will benefit us and what will hurt us. Put yourself in the position of being a father and your child asks for food and water, would you give him or her a stone or vinegar? A good father would not...ANd in that thought, he al;ready knows what we need and makes it possiuble for us to find or attain. We only need look. The same holds true for everything else in life and in this world. With this life there is also repsonsibility...for many of us look around at the way things are and ask why God allows things to be as they are...Jesus would ask of us...why do we...he asked us to love one another and to take care of one another just like any parent would want or expect when they leave home...and when he returns he will ask how we did and what we did...we need no one expect Jesus between us and God..no pstors, no reverends, no popes, no man or woman, no mortal...just Jesus for we gome to god through him, our brother. There is no mystery, no ceremony, no veils of secrecy, no secret handshakes or rituals, and no one need kneel to no other man nor speak of their life and soul to no other mortal, on only call on God through Jesus, for God already know whjo you are, what you need...he just needs to hear from you...that is what spirituality is about...it is within you...it is strength of knowing who he is and who you are to him....his child whom he loves

People refer to being "religious" in a negative way; like bill Clinton saying he was Christian but he was having sex with that woman. He was "religious" in that he knew in his head that he souldn't do it, but he still did it.

spirituality and faith go hand in hand, many people call their faith, religon, many Christians however call their faith a relationship with Christ and that is a huge difference if you take some time to think about it.
