I was living in Turin when they showed the shroud for the last time ever. I stood in line and had a look for myself. I thought that I may get a mystic revelation, or something. It was pretty interesting but, alas, I got no religious ecstasy or revelation. I am pretty fascinated by relics and incorruptible saints (like Saint Zita in Lucca). It intrigues me that people would keep bits of dead saint and make these beautiful receptacles to house an old finger or shin bone or what not.

I am not being blasphemous. I believe in God and was raised catholic, but I take a much more pragmatic stance.

Simple, where in the Bible does it say there was a shroud. No mention, no importance, except as an idol symbol. Jesus was wrapped in bandages, which were rolled up and left behind after his body was destroyed to fulfill the convenient of the sacrificial lamb. Those were likely used on someone else, or destroyed to prevent them fro being use like the shroud is.

Definitely not Jesus. The Word of God says that Jesus was unrecognizable after all the torture and after all of the sicknesses known and unknown to man were placed on His body. Also, His beard was ripped out of His face and the dude in the Turin has a beard and looks like he only has a few injuries.

An attempt for people to cling onto something tangible, which is utter nonsense.

It is so easy for some to lose focus on what is really important.

Strange piece of cloth, religious zeal carried to the point of superstition. Not important, either way.

It has been fairly well proven to be a fake. What's more, someone managed to figure out how it was done and replicated the process to prove that it could be done.

It's an exceptional piece of artwork, but the only proof of divinity it offers is the skill of the artist who created it.
