Matthew 18:17
"If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector".
Which Church is Jesus talking about?
clearly it is a church with leadership, authorithy, and one that is visible. It is the Church, Jesus gave to the Apostles.
The only Church that existed at the time of the Apostles is the Catholic Church.

Anointing? You know, people fall down on the ground when some pastors or evangelists lay hand on them, what is really happening to that person at that time?

The church has no business getting involved in politics or economics. The church is responsible only for the spiritual needs of its people.

A small warning: It uses profanity, but nothing visual, and nothing too bad. If you listen past the "naughty" words, there's a message, and I'd like to know what you think about it.

Funny? True? Blasphemous? I want to hear openions, with reasons, please. :)

Let's see how many read the question ;-)

Considering that in the OT God shows up as burning bushes, towers of smoke, plagues of locust, first-borns drop dead, parting the Red Sea, world-wide flood, booming voice from the sky, stops the sun, etc etc, one might deduce that God doesn't have a problem showing Himself.

And yet, after Paul's vision, God seems to disappear altogether.

God wasn't too concerned about faith back in the OT. He even allows Himself to be tested against another god (whose priests can't get the wood to burn so they can offer sacrifice, Moses staff turning into a serpent and eating the serpents of Pharoah's wizards, etc). So why has God grown so shy?

As a Christian I have often felt targeted by other people for the sins of fellow Christians and I feel like I'm automatically grouped in with them. I can't even imagine how it must be for all the Muslims. I was wondering how you have been treated with all the things that have been going on in the world with the extremists. Do you have many people grouping you in with the terrorists? Do you have any particular stories about persecution you have received for your religion?

What does it take to be christian? I was not born Christian. I only started believing in god and jesus 2 years ago. So is it the believing that makes you a christian or do they have to do something to you to be a christian?

"But according to the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved. So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie, in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness."
New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all apower and bsigns and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be adamned who bbelieved not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness

I'm interested in doing a 10-day vipassana course at a retreat (ones run by S.N. Goenka) in the near future. I've researched for months on the internet about the retreat and there seems to be a lot of positive feedback from the people who've attended the courses. While theres been more positive feedback than negative, I'm slightly worried about what has been written on a certain website (vipassana-cult.com - i think). While I am fairly confident it is not a cult, people have been reported to have experienced hallucinations and various psychological problems after attending one of the courses. What I want to know is, is vipassana suitable for everyone? Is there proof that links vipassana with psychological problems?

I am fairly new to meditation. The technique I'm using is just basically the observation of the breath. This I'm told represses emotions however, so I'd really like to try out vipassana (which doesn't repress emotions)- providing it is safe.
