Matthew 18:17
"If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector".
Which Church is Jesus talking about?
clearly it is a church with leadership, authorithy, and one that is visible. It is the Church, Jesus gave to the Apostles.
The only Church that existed at the time of the Apostles is the Catholic Church.

Study your Bible and you will see that the Bible is the story of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Church is the story of the Bible.

musicchurch girl: I'm sorry if it is a slap but protestantism was born out of the heresies of Martin Luther. Jesus established one church, under one shephard, with one flock.

The church described in the Bible has no pope, no archbishops, no archdeacons.
It has multiple bishops over a single congregation, and not a single bishop over multiple congregations.
It didn't teach infallability, purgatory, transubstantiation, original inherited sin, or the eternal virginity of Mary.
Therefore, the church of the Bible is not the Catholic Church. For more on the Lord's church, click the link below.

First of all, this isn't a question.
Second, the Bible is the story of God's saving love at work in the world. Don't forget, the Old Testament was written by and (originally) for the Jewish people, God's Chosen Ones.
Third, the point you are making is not only illogical, but a slap in the face and an insult to non-Catholic Christian denominations.
Fourth, Matthew was writing for a JEWISH audience. And linguistically, the word that is here translated as "church" comes from the Latin/Greek/Arameic etc meaning of "community."

The Church is Christ's Body and is not a particular denomination or building. There is no requirement to belong to a certain denomination in order to be a member of Christ's Body.
The original Church was Catholic as in Universal. The paganism of Rome got intermeshed with it due to the great persecution which caused many to compromise.

Jesus was the chief cornerstone, it was simply the faith of Peter that Jesus was referring to when He talked of building His church.
The Catholic clergy has grossly misunderstood the meaning of this passage and has taken it as a ticket to administer their own doctrine that was supplemental to God's word, hence the apocrapha.
The passage you reference is talking about how to deal with unconfessed sin within the church, this has nothing to do with the authority of the modern day catholic church.
1. catholics believe that Scripture and "sacred tradition" are equal in authority, and yet 11 Tim 3:16,17 is clear that the Bible is the sole guide for faith and practice.
2. Rome says the magisterium has been entrusted to interpret the Bible for Catholics, who are not to interpret if for themselves. John 5:39, 14:26 says that the Holy Spirit gives guidance for interpretation to all who receive it.
3. Catholics believe that the pope (a word not used in scripture) is infallible when he speaks "ex cathedra" on matter of faith and morals. Ephesians 1:22 and Col. 1:18 shows that no human being is infallible and only Christ is the head of the church
4. Catholics claim that salvation is secured by faith plus good works and grace conferred through the seven sacraments of the church, Rom 3:24 and Eph 2:8,9 show that salvation is secured through "sola fide" (faith alone) in Jesus Christ's atoning sacrifice on the cross.
5. Catholics blend justification and sancification into one process as the believer must work to merit eternal lfe, John 17:15-19 and Phil. 2:12-13 show that God justifies the believer by declaring him or her righteous, and that sanctification is a lifelong process of becoming holy as God works within.
And the list goes on and on.......

The RCs did not start with the Apostles...they did not start for 300 yrs after... There is only one "Church" and that is The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head.
In Matt.18:17 it refers to what today we call a denomination or congrgation. A local body with elders or decons and a pastor or other apointed Sr. individual. When someone is not living axourding to Christ's teaching and has offended another or broken a congrigational rule or other breach of good order. then one of the body must go to him and in love correct him. If that individual refuses the proper councel then it is to the elders of the church body to go to him. if he still refuses to comply with the rules of good order or to make amends for any ofence...then he is to be cast out of the body and denied the fellowship of the body of believers. untill such time as the offender repents by Biblical standards..
This dose not evem apply to the RC cult as they are not even of The Christian Faith

Not any particular denomination.

HA Ha Ha! The gangster war lord INVENTED the Catholic CULT 600 years LATER!
JESUS was NOT a CATHOLIC!
He was and is a JEW!
All 12 Apostles were JEWS.
Peter (the pebble) was a JEW and a MARRIED MAN = read your BIBLE. That's the man your Cult claims is the first Poop.

It depends on if you mean catholic as in universal and united, yes. If you mean as in Catholic under the Bishop of Rome (which is how I understood it, because of your big "C"), then no. The denomination of Catholicism didn't come around until after the writing of scripture. It didn't even come about until cannonization of Scripture. Peter was never a pope, there is no current living human that makes infallible decisions, and people can pray directly to God and understand scripture outside of what their church leadership declares. Of yeah, Mary and Joseph got it on something fierce after she bore Jesus, because Jospeh was in his mid 20's when they got married, and they gave birth to James, Jude, Judas (not Iscariot), and a slew of girls too.

Would you PLEASE show me the scriptures out of your Bible, ANY Bible , that in any way shape or form makes any type of statement that the Roman Catholic Religion is "The" church?
Just one scripture! I am sooooooooo tired of seeing folks make this claim and they NEVER have a scripture out of the Bible to validate it!
Please, don't use Matt 16:18-19! That scripture in no way validates your claim, or anyone elses.
