Anointing? You know, people fall down on the ground when some pastors or evangelists lay hand on them, what is really happening to that person at that time?

I am from Southern West Virginia. This and surrounding areas is known as the Bible Belt. What you are speaking of is known as being slain in the spirit or falling out in the spirit. In the book of Corinthians you can read much about the gifts of God. When you become a christian it is the anointing of the Holy Ghost that you feel in your heart that draws you to God. As a christian you should pray for more of this anointing in your life. The more you
pray and seek God the closer you will feel to him. When a pastor or evangelist prays for you and the anointing (God's Presence) is so strong you will indeed sometimes colapse from it's power. This has happened to me. I would stake my life on the reality of it. I have been a christian for over 30 years and I knows God's presence when I feel it. Some people will tell you that the laying on of hands has stopped, that speaking in other tongues has stopped or that prophesy has ceased. This is not true. The bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. That means he has not changed so if it was real 2000 years ago it is still real today, you have only to believe. First Timothy Chapter Four tells us to be an example of the believers.

As far as what is being shown on TV, to that I cannot say. I am sorry to say that I believe a lot of TV ministers use the word of God for their own advantage and will someday have to face God for doing so. But I promise you, the anointing of God is as real today as it was 2000 or 20000 years ago.

I am listing a few bible references below, but if you are sincere and really want to know about this then I strongly encourage you to start reading your bible. Ask God to show, He said to ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.

May God richly bless your life.

Mark Chapter 16
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Hebrews 13:8
8Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

1 Timothy Chapter 4
11These things command and teach.
12Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Act 8

18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Anointing is real and the Bible does talk about it.

James 5:13-16 talks about anointing the sick and praying for them and they will be healed. There are also other instances of anointing. Basically you anoint someone with oil (usually on their head) and pray for them. But you don't have to have the oil. It's really more about praying for the person, that's all.

Unfortunately many churches have really grossly taken this concept out of context and went crazy with it. Biblical anointing is mainly just prayer. But churches have decided to make shows of it, which is what you see on TV.

Yes a person can be slain in the spirit (fall down). It does happen, and it is very real, but not everyone does it, and it doesn't make a person any more spiritual that someone who does not.

It's hard because like many things TV takes something and distorts it. Some people also do put on shows and try to exploit it for money. It's really sad, because they mislead alot of people.

You don't have to do that stuff to be saved or to have a relationship with the Lord by any means. You can pray and seek Him on it if you want to know the part that is real. But just understand that there is a difference between real and fake on this one.

Some call it being slain in the Spirit. It is the result of an overwhelming anointing of the Holy Spirit upon an individual that often times causes them to be so caught up in this presence that they collapse from the power of the event.

Usually it is a farce. The same with speaking in tongues. But not always is it a farce.

There is one guy that I know of that the Virgin Mary gave the power of healing to him. I am not sure why, but over half of the people he prays over fall down to the ground, and most of them are crying.

In the bible it says that a person's soul will prostate itself in the presence of God. I don't know if the holy spirit is going into them, and causing them to fall, or a realization of God happening within them.

I am a scientist, and I also believe in God. Still I am not sure though what is going on exactly that makes the people fall down.

Some people refer to it as being "slain in the Spirit"--despite the fact there's no parallel found in the Scriptures. Check out the link below for the Christian Research Institute and look up "being slain in the Spirit" and the Brownsville Revival and Toronto Blessing.

You can have anointing in many different circumstances.
It is when the grace of God or when the Holy Spirit or Holy Angels touch you or when God's blessing comes over you. You can live in this state not just receive it for a moment....XOXOXO

they're really uncommon the position I stay in Europe and maximum Christian Europeans shake their heads over those sorts of recommendations and Sarah Palin as a vice president selection. i imagine its a phenomenon that began contained in the U.S. yet you also discover in poorer countries the position they deliver their missions and proselytizing aide. They volunteer to assist those impoverished human beings besides the undeniable fact that the agenda is likewise to remodel them to their beliefs. Impoverished and suffering human beings the position there is no longer a reliable preparation device are susceptible to such. Its a options harder for such recommendations to take root in advanced countries with a good standard of residing and preparation device.

Yes, as others have said, its called being slain in the Spirit. It is a real experience, as described, where the Spirit fills someone and they are temporarily released from the world, and experience complete rest in Him. Its like a momentary disconnect from all your problems and worries and flooded with His love and presence. It is so relaxing that the body just collapses.

Some of it, probably most of it I believe is show-boating. I know some people do "get into the spirit" and are in general worship and in great joy for the Lord but again I believe alot of it is to draw attention.

Remember Christ said he preferred the man who prayed in the closet over the Pharisee who came in with his bell ringing and making a big show of piety for all to see.
